Damn shame how they dropped the ball on Deck album, should of been a classic, poor beat choices, we got way better wu affiliate albums then decks album. There are times I go back to listen to it and I just can't get into it, there are a good song here and there but nothing amazing even in 1999 when I first copped it I was expecting this to be a instant wu classic but I was so disappointed

Then again, remember, the debut we got was 1/3rd self-produced and, given Deck's discography, most of his own best beats went to others over himself, which makes you question his ear for what he's rhyming over...

I can't imagine what we lost in the flood as far as Decks album goes etc..... I am sure it was some straight fire being Rza was in his prime at the time and doing classic after classic.
He probably had beats for every clan member for their albums in prime time. We lost out but even with those two floods rzas the goat and that says something.

That flood was life altering. If Deck got an album comparable to Cuban Linx/Liquid Swords/Iron Man at the time it would have been a classic and altered his life to this day. At the very least it would have gone gold too.
I have said this 100 times and you can tell in Decks interviews when talking on that album he looks depressed like he lost a big part of his life... In reality it altered his career as you said and not for the better. We got Uncontrolled years later and it was cool but if he releases this album that he lost in 95 he gets his platinum plaque and his classic we talk about like Liquid Swords, Linx and Ironman etc., to this day, it would be another classic added to the Wu solos during that run.
It definitely would have gone Gold! Cuban Linx, Swords and Ironman all eventually went platinum! It took a few years but they got the certs. I know Decks would have went the same route, that ruined his career and I will say that to this day. We missed out on a gem, still sucks to this day speaking on it.

Someone said it best in the comments on a video (youtube Deck video talking on the flood)
"The infamous lost Deck solo debut is one of the biggest what ifs in hip hop history with the DOC"

Tical would've been better if it wasn't for the flood as well. It always felt rushed to me.
They spoke on it, it was rushed after that flood and Rza had to try and recreate the sound. The albums that proceeded it as far as the solo's go were much more poslished as you can tell (Sound, mixing etc.). I loved Tical for what it was and that was my first Wu related album so it is one I look back on in a good light but if not for that flood I am sure that album would have been up there with the ones that proceeded it.....

Deck sounds hurt when talking on this flood and his album, you can tell. He knows he missed his shot and plat album.

Rza stated it was to have spiderman theme and samples.

If you listen to uncontrolled substance closely, youll hear referrences to this. I just noticed it listening to this mix.

Talk of gliding thru the air and sticking to walls.

“Peep me with the bug eye we bout to glide”

“Life on the web without the dot com”

“Ins clone and the saga with no happy ending” aka spiderman clone saga story of the mid 90s

The lines are literally littered in every song. Even femme fatale mentions black cat and stuff. I never realize that really until I listened to this. But yea it really is all in there. Crazy noone noticed that for 20 years.

This was posted on wu corp, adds 60s spiderman story and makes it so its all like a big story. Its pretty good. It also uses all the beats given away to side wu members. It has an 1994 / 1996 vibes combining. Woulda been dope for early 1995. Wu gave too many beats away to other rappers.

That soldiers of darkness / spazzola blend sounds like a real joint. So does trouble man / gotta find a way, rec room / run, femme fatale / polluted wisdom , uncontrolled substakce / as long as you know and The lay ya hammer / little rascalz mix are perfect.

The intro when deck says

“Loungin in the barracks with Blue and Cappadonna / SPIDERMAN , identity PETER PARKER” with the RUN synths hittig as soon as he says sounds EXACTLY like the spiderman 90s cartoon intro synth. Woah

the references to the lizard “cut ya snake head and tongue” on tres leches which is bridged with a fight with the lizard lmao. This is comedy how well the story works here. It almost turns the album i to a concept one.

And The way doe or die ends, with raekwon mentioning a image with double exposure, into the accapella or az talking about being dripped out, merging into spiderman taking pics from afar and spotting the black cat trying to rob the party is comedy. Lol. Makes me wish rae played kingpin and was gathering rap villains and thats why they had a meth vs chef like battle.

Or the lizard being cured with a drink before shaolin brew/st ides remix. Lol this hilarious

Dope lil mix man.

During the mid-90s, RZA’s Staten Island, New York home studio suffered two floods. It was estimated that 500 beats were lost, also including creations by Wu producers 4th Disciple and Tru Master. It would be Inspectah Deck who arguably suffered the most as Method Man, Raekwon, GZA, and Ghost’ were able to recreate their albums released between 1994 and 1996. Ultimately, Deck’s Uncontrolled Substance solo debut that arrived in 1999 was far different than what was reportedly on the original reels and floppy disks.

Was Rza's studio that flooded the same one in Gza's Liquid Swordz video? The thumbnail looks the same

That soldiers of darkness / spazzola blend sounds like a real joint. So does trouble / gotta tind a way man and rec room / run. And the soul controller remix over from then til now with its verse about playing the wall like 9 superheroes. Oh the uncontrolled / as long as you know and The lay ya hammer / little rascalz mix are perfect.

I lold when forget me not came on and decks mentions “shorty sliding out the side and taking a cab” like in the story here leading into Grand Prix with its driving/chase theme. That was good. lmao. That and the references to the lizard “cut ya snake head and tongue” on tres leches which is bridged with a fight with the lizard lmao. This is comedy how well the story works here. It almost turns the album into a concept album. The az lines of being dressed and iced out and yhen black cat is scoping to rob him. Or the lizard being cured with a drink before shaolin brew/st ides remix. Lol this is hilarious.

Tru master verse on 9th chamber / 5 arch angels is dope, always felt it needed an extra deck verse to bookend. Beat sounds perfect for that joint.. Pop the brown hornet added to grandprix. Dope lil mix man.

Why you post this shyt :mjcry:

We lost out on hiphop history :snoop:
