Me and some brehs from college had lunch to catch up while he was in town.

Put it this way, a shyt ton of bills will be sponsored over the next 2 years specifically around gutting our healthcare system to save money

Both parties will try and cut in literally every area BUT military spending to address the 37 TRILLION dollar debt this country is in.

He confirmed that protests don't work and, if anything, piss off reps into voting against what people protest. They also get pissed off when you blow up their phones and email. So the Gaza protests were never going to change anything, especially because the Israel lobby basically paid hundreds of millions for bills that favor Israel.

Essentially, if you aren't a lobby group or know lobbies, you are fukked. The bills that get enough steam in the house will not be killed no matter what; they will only get enough amendments that satisfy opposing lobbies. Nothing in any of this exchange has consideration for constituents. So for example, when, #StopAsianHate was signed by Biden, it was because the bill was sponsored by rich Asian lobby groups that made sure it got enough steam that it wouldn't die in the House or Senate. The optics looked good for the Dems who would rely on minority group votes during the mid terms for a "blue wave" as a bonus. But really, it was the money that made it move so quickly. We didn't even get into the Republicans because all he had to say was "NRA" and we got the message.

I got home about 20 mins ago and have just been staring at my TV with nothing but disbelief. This system is so fukking corrupt and broken; I still can't believe how naive I am and many people are :snoop:

Americans get angry at me when I describe your country as an evil oligarchy.

The US is a dying superpower and is transitioning into its final form as a Cold War era Latin American dictatorship

those aircraft carriers are the only thing giving the US dollar any credibility, so get used to it

should have known this was just another thread to cry about Hamas starting a war they can't finish. if you actually cared about the women and children in palestine, you'd be calling for Hamas to surrender. it's over

I'm a little disappointed a cac is bloviating about matters he doesnt comprehend.
you're right, i don't understand how Hamas beats israel militarily, and makes "from the river to the sea" a reality

why don't you enlighten us, instead of making 80 threads passively aggressively crying about it

This country has always prioritized the needs of the rich over the needs of regular people. It's founders are multimillionaires and billionaires by today's standards.

Prof. Gerald horne broke this down in the counter revolution of 1776.

Osita nwanevu writes about it in his book that just came out called the right of the people.

Professor Richard Wolf has always talked about this and is a huge advocate for workplace democracy.

Many of the federal government institutions and mechanisms you take for granted did not used to exist and the states each essentially functioned like individual countries. The rich have always been in charge and have always geared the country's policies to their interests.

The cold war was about them making sure they had access to resources in other countries and controlled who the soviets would be able to trade with.

The Iraq War was about destroying any militaries that would pose a threat to Israel(remember the Iraq army had already won conflicts before with others) and about trying to basically make another Saudi Arabia that sells oil directly to america.

America didn't give a shyt about nazi germany and if japan had stayed out of U.S. territory America would've sat by and just let the nazis complete their genocide.

As I said during the 24 election and after, you need to focus on what's going on in your city and your state. Your local politicians have a lot of power and you need to vote specifically for people who represent your interests while creating or contributing to unionization efforts and mutual aid projects.

People will lose their healthcare. This means people in the community will need to pool their resources to secure medicine and medical care for people in their neighborhoods and cities. People will be targeted by law enforcement. This means people will need to pool together to pay for legal defense and cooperate with obstructing illegal raids, assaults, etc. People will lose their jobs. This means people will need to pool together their resources to offer each other places to stay, eviction prevention funds, etc. The rich have won, and they're going to destroy this country. It's just a given at this point. But we've been here before. We got out of it by wrestling the economy away from the hands of the rich robber barons and using collective bargaining and action (strikes, boycotts etc.) To bring them to the bargaining table. Money talks, bullshyt walks. Use your money to support local organizations that are helping people right now, and when int comes time to vote, vote for people who are focused on making your community what you want it to be.

That's all there is to it. The politics are a performance, a game that rich people who don't know what it's like to be one or two paychecks away from homelessness or death to play. It's theater. They couldn't care less about what regular people are going through. Protests don't work. Boycotts, mutual aid, and direct action has always gotten results. A labor movement needs to be built in this country and that will take time.

The #StopAsianHate thing was just a dog whistle to stir up hatred towards black people.
There wasn't a "George Floyd" bill because, despite the protest and outrage, we don't have a single, powerful black lobby to bribe these corrupt politicians. It failed because there was no money momentum for the proposed bill.

The NAACP is a breadcrumb organization that was meant to placate us due to how dangerous UNIA was.

The only way black people progress, meaningfully isn't through voting. It's through concentrated lobbying. It's now abundantly clear to me after today.
