This wasn't like the St Lucia Kweyol thread, but I know enough French to have been able to figure out what the Creole guy was saying, and to carry a conversation with him.

The St Lucia Kweyol was 90% identical to Haitian Kreyol.

Noticed an interesting difference in the Creole man's last comment that points to how Louisiana Creole developed after USA took over that territory.

He says my cousins speak "(A)Merican", not Anglais.

Anglais would be the straight forward translation in French. In Louisiana, because a culture struggle began the day Napoleon sold the territory to Jefferson, the English language became synonymous with the Americans.
