The half-life series is one of those series I just missed. Can somebody explain or share a good video that explains why it’s so revered?

"Half Life" 1 & 2 introduced everything that exists in modern FPS. Action set pieces, story, enemy AI, physics, etc.

Prior to that, FPS were very simple. Run into an area, shoot enemies, move to the next area, etc. These games pretty much changed the genre over night.

Halflife 1 and 2 were revolutionary but the bolded is a huge reach and honestly disrespectful to id and the quake series especially

I'm not above being schooled but I don't remember "Quake" having anything like Havok, or even a dedicated physics engine.

EDIT:

Actually Googling it, it had simple physics related to movement but nothing like "HL2":



I don't remember any action set pieces either, but I could be wrong. I mean stuff like the tentacle breaking through the window, etc.
