Happiness (1998) ... Someone break down the appeal here

At the risk of overstating it's critical reception, I've seen this film get mentioned and spoken highly of in recent years. I see it's described as a dark comedy-drama, so you can imagine my reaction as I skimmed through the disturbing synopsis.

I'm most likely going to watch it eventually, but what's the film room's consensus?

But yup, sounds like you watched the same film. The pedo storyline has been a big enough deterrent for me so far. Don't remember reading about the scene you spoilered, but seems about right for this movie.

Yeah I saw a lot of shyt as a kid I probably shouldn't have once I got cable in my room lol.


I remember it being sick and disturbing. Plus the pedo dude legit looked like one, perfect casting on that one.
