Definitely pre. He was more about Black people being separate from their oppressor before he went to Mecca. He softened on that stance after. I will NEVER criticize Brother Malcolm. EVER. I disagreed with some of his stance after his pilgrimage. ..

Interesting.

Post Mecca Malcolm is definitely my favourite era but respect Pre Mecca Malcolm extremely highly too.

Never been anyone like him since:mjcry:

That's where I am as well. I never disagreed with him before Mecca because he was all black everything, but after his trip I didn't like how he was a little more inclusive. Having said all that he's still the #1 figure of black empowerment to me.

That didn't lower his black empowerment, he simply expanded and recognized the benefit of allies. I'd argue he became more of a threat AFTER Mecca because of this. He let go of some of his more illogical views (all white people are inherently evil/lab creations of a big headed scientist) and recognized the black struggle is a global struggle, not just US based. And that struggle is mirrored by the struggle of various oppressed people in the world, from Palestinians to Cubans etc etc.

To me personally, the thing that has struck me the most about Malcolm X is his evolution as a person and a thinker. Some people remain who they are, intellectually. Malcolm's intellectual awakening, which was tied to his spiritual awakening, came out the gates red hot. And yet even still he had the ability to reverse course when it was needed. He could admit when he was wrong, or when something/someone he believed in was wrong. A lot of people are so ideological they could never do that. It takes a truly advanced person to do it, without "selling out" or becoming contradictory.

1.What allies?
2.Those people don't give a fukk about us until they need something.

1. In Malcolm's case? For starters the reason he manged to get into Mecca and avoid being thrown in jail was due to a Saudi prince, who later provided financing for him. During this period Malcolm also was in talks with various leaders in African governments and wanted to begin some movement of solidarity between American blacks and Africans. This included financial plans, condemning the US' treatment of blacks at the UN Security Counsel, etc.

2. Eh. I've had enough arguments on the Coli that devolve into weird logical fallacies like that. I'm not going to engage. Suffice to say, it's very hard to truly being conscious of one struggle and not be able to find some level of solidarity with other groups going through the same struggles.
