MalcolmX (/ˈmælkəm ˈɛks/; May19, 1925 – February21, 1965), born Malcolm Little and also known as el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz[A] (Arabic: الحاجّ مالك الشباز‎), was an American Muslim minister and a human rights activist. To his admirers he was a courageous advocate for the rights of blacks, a man who indicted white America in the harshest terms for its crimes against black Americans; detractors accused him of preaching racism and violence. He has been called one of the greatest and most influential African Americans in history.

MalcolmX was effectively orphaned early in life. His father was killed when he was six and his mother was placed in a mental hospital when he was thirteen, after which he lived in a series of foster homes

I read it, too. I remember the first time. Inspirational. It really should be required reading.

Saying his father was killed is an understatement, though. His father was a courageous coommunity leader, a minister, lynched-by-oncoming-train, which is worse than merely being killed or murdered. But yeah. He led a remarkable life, in spite of the system. Intelligent, handsome, witty, passionate, he was Superman and Jesus put together.

Malcolm had such an impact on my childhood. Growing up on Lenox Ave and knowing he preached in various places though out Harlem always made me feel very connected to him. Those posted quotes are awesome, thanks for sharing!

Brother Malcolm is what every man should aspire to, and every woman should aspire to have in her life and raise her sons to be.

That first picture, he's not afraid of new things, he finds joys in new experiences, but he's serious about those new experiences. He's not just fukking around, he really wants to know how they work. That second picture, he's not afraid to laugh, and love, and just live in the moment and share his joy. That third picture though... that third picture is what I imagine every great African and Muslim king to look like. Strong, serious, wise but beloved by those around him who show in their body language that they trust his judgement and can't wait to be part of and participate in whatever endeavor he sets out to do.
