So I bought a modded wii and it came with a 320 gig WD hard drive
I dl a game and plugged the hdd into the computer and it wanted me to format
So I tried different USB ports, then different computers with different os's
I even tried a mac
Each one told me to format
I thought maybe it got messed up but when I plugged it back into the wii it worked fine

You need to use a specific program to read/write a Wii formatted HD on your PC. It's been so long that I forgot the name of the one I used (there are more than one). The program is what you use to add new games to the HD.

That also means you can't use the HD for anything other than the Wii without formatting it and losing everything on it. I had a 320gb that I used, and figuring (correctly) that I wouldn't need that much, I partitioned it off, using part for the Wii, and the rest for whatever else I wanted worked great.

Thanks. I'll look for that
I don't plan on using it for any other reason but the wii
