Its just hilarious how this board wants Durant perceived as a greater player than all his contemporaries, but held to a lower bar than them all. And it aint just Bron---->a recent thread revealed cats want him graded differently than Kawhi. Add Steph, Harden, Giannis, Westbrook, Paul, a few more...

That said, 2.5 quarters without Kyrie isn't enough to proclaim his effort as a failing one, so cats saying that are outta line. But there were some tells in that 2.5 quarters that are worth talking about...

After Kyrie's exit Durant went 6-19 with 4 of his 5 turnovers. This is not the first glimpse we've seen of KD without another elite scorer next to him, and historically this is what he turns into. Forcing bad shots (he had one go off the side of the backboard tonight), careless ball handling (was stripped by PJ once and lost another in transition), inconsistent movement without the ball, limp wrist passes, etc...

It hasn't been often he's had to play without an elite scoring teammate, and even in those stretches he's still prone to get hot and torch you. But more often, in these rare occasions, his efficiency and tenacity take a nose dive, and you see this in his body language too. So something im watching in G5, is if he's overcome this, that while it's a tougher road to plow without your elite help, he can stay in the game with something at least close to his normal shot selection and ball handling. If you lose you lose, but don't let the loss be because you can't elevate your performance...

This is fair, at this point expecting the Nets to win the title without Kyrie and harden is nuts. But if you’re gonna go out you gotta go out on your sword.

they’re gonna need Shamet, Mike James and tyler Johnson to be aggressive looking for their shot in these next 2 games

When he has Harden and/or Kyrie he is automatic and the best player on the planet. When he doesn't have either he is displaying bad body language while going 9-25 in playoff games, begging the refs for every call and throwing in the towel in a Conf Semi game with like 6:30 left with like a 17, 18 point deficit.

At what point does Durant get the kid gloves off and get judge and critiqued like a superstar player is supposed to?

But it's been asked of other players, if KD is the world's best no questions asked the next 2 of 3 is doable.

He got smoked in 6 in the Finals and put up an inefficient & empty 36 PPG against the first genuine contender he faced.

I admit, even though I called KD the best player two weeks ago, I don't think he's capable of this. for one, his handles have been average this season and I've seen him choke when the going gets rough.
