Insignificant posting from an insignificant poster
White people turn everything into a commodity cuz they seldom ignite follow-worthy trends of their own.

And that's fine to me cuz white people have been doing that since the dawn of time.

The only thing that perturbs me is that fact that not a single person is "doing the harlem shake". But that's a redundant comment because, to this very day, i have yet to see a white person effectively and correctly perform that dance (i'd say, based on how many people i ever witnessed "attempting" to do it - it's prolly the most difficult dance not-ballroom-related in the history of man kind. The gyrations and fluid movements all while synching to a beat is the equivalent of putting on a wetsuit 3 sizes too small for you, your boat is about to sink and the remaining divers have already left without and you still haven't located your oxygen tank yet - shiit ain't easy).

Back in 2001-2001, i remember seeing that manouever in the "Let's Get It" and "Whos That Girl" video in complete awe. At the time, It was essentially the best thing i've ever come across since Infamil (and to this day, still is).

I made it a quest to perfect that dance.

To this day, i am one of the last remaining Harlem Shakers that aren't from Harlem and and isn't white.

That's why i see the Harlem Shake turn into a contemporary commodification piece, it angers me because everything that is done, is done inappropriately for the wrong reasons.

They b*stardized the dance/movement and there's no saving it because its so damn prominent in media right now.

Swear to god to Killa Cam, damn ya man... if i ever end up in one of these videos, i'm gonna shut shiit the fukk down and show these naive cacs how to do a REAL HARLEM MOTHAFUKKIN' SHAKE!!!

*trembles for no reason while yanking out an imaginary flower from his pocket, tossing it in the air, wiggling a few times then catching it with his mouth...

... and goes back to more vehement shakes*

I really dont get why this crap is so popular.

It's just stupid.

It's like people today just see something "funny" and latch onto it. "Oh, so when it says Harlem Shake, you just jump up and do something stupid? Okay...sweet!"

While us white folks might like to follow the black trends/cultures at times, let us not forget it also goes both ways.

For hip-hop in itself, was created by black folks playing disco records and using that music to make their own.

Also, check out popular young black fashion right now, specifically in hip-hop. Most of it is garbage straight from white 20 something hipsters.

Also, hip-hop is obsessed w/ mob culture. How many guys are a "boss" or a "don".

Let's not pretend like we all don't borrow from eachothers cultures.

Yeah I kept seeing the videos on my YT feed and was wondering, is the harlem shake really back, that shyt was from 10 years ago.

Then I clicked the video and loved it, cause it's people just wildin the fukk out having fun.

The reason there's so many vids is because anyone can do that shyt.

:snoop: @ nikkas still thinking white people are trying to do the dance, or trying to mock black people with it

95% of the cacs doing it probably don't even know it was a dance......they think it's just the name of a stupid song you're supposed to dance silly to because of a meme. Notice that nobody's doing a particular type of dance in any of those videos; they're just doing random retarded 'dancing'

And nikkas in this thread really actin' like black people don't steal shyt from other cultures just like whites :russ:

The mob thing isn't white American, it's Italian American. Unless your roots are Italian then you really can't speak on that. And disco was created by gay black people in Chicago, so that wasn't stolen. Rock was created by black people, and modern day pop was created by Motown and the rest of the black singers back then. Tbh don't pretend like it's a double edge sword because it's not, whites enslaved blacks, made fun of them, and then stole their identities and engulfed themselves in their culture, if blacks enslaved whites and then ridiculed them and then idolized their culture THEN you could make that argument but it's yet to happen, so no please don't compare oranges and organs.

I think the black folks in this video have a valid gripe. This "new Harlem Shake" does not represent them and the original Harlem shake. That is the main issue. If this "new Harlem shake" was called the "Go Crazy" or "the Wild Man" or some shyt like that, there would be absolutley no issue at all. But when u attach a name to something that has already been established, then u are goin to have people that will feel some type of way.

Imagine if there was a new sport that involved say "Trampoline jumping" and they called it Football. Don't u think that Football fans would have a legitimate issue with a trampoline sport adopting a name of an established game already called football? Of course they would.

He issue is the misrepresentation of the name of "the new harlem shake" :birdman:

Let's take it a step further, since a lot of cats on here love the hell out of Nas. If some white House/trance/electroinica artist caled himwelf "Noz" and his debut album totaly riped of the real Nas "it was written/Illmatic Cover" with the baby picture and all. And this album went on to sell millions of records and people were calling Noz an innovator etfc. Would Nas hip hop fans have a valid gripe or argument?

- the song is called "Harlem Shake" and was made before the meme even started (also the song wasn't produce to create a meme)

- the meme itself allegedly started with 4 dudes in a bedroom dancing like weirdos to this song. they probably also didn't know this would become a meme (or what the harlem shake is)

the equivalent is if some weirdos started doing the dougie in a video while playing the macarena song. and then it became a meme. at the end of the day, it's not meant as disrespect and it's not that serious.

So let me get this str8

Some cac invented basketball we took it an ran with it, some cac invented football we took it and ran with, skateboard culture we took it and assimilated it with hiphop.

But when some cac does a silly ass dance just for fun all the sudden it's an afront to black culture and clash of different cultures. A dance which looks gay as hell and originated from a crack head :skip:

Ya nikkas just want something to be mad at

:guwop:

Dominating basketball and football because nikkas are stronger, faster, more athletic, etc. (1% of rappers use skateboards so now its assimilated into hip hop? :skip:) isn't because "we" took it and ran with it dumbass.

I understand all that. But my post was to point out the reasons why people had an issue with "the new harlem shake"
