Harriet Tubman didn't actually free slaves. She just had them go work for other white people. Kanye

I'm old enough not to be that stupid and act like he didnt say more than that...
And somebody purposely just chose to show that clip, so we have no context or know what point he was trying to make.

But people are pretty dumb...
So let's see where this goes

There's no context that would justify what he said. Harriet Tubman actually freed hundreds of people from literal bondage at risk of death over and over again. If the point is that those liberated people only went on to be exploited in labor by whites, it's grossly reductive and disrespectful. To compare literal savage bondage to exploitive capitalistic labor where people still have a chance to make their own choices, lengthen their lives, and start their own schools and businesses is ridiculous. There is no justifying this. He's a loon and people trying to rationalize it or make it sound legitimate sound like loons too.

It's not a lie. But I get a lot of y'all be on some Lincoln freed the slaves mentality not really get it.

In the words of KRS-One, "you can never be free on stolen land".

Not to disparage Harriet Tubman, but black people may of been freed of property ownership, but still not "free". They were still treated no differently by Northern Whites as with Southern Whites. And still forced to do hard labor for the white man with the illusion of being free because you aren't owned. Being literally free is total detachment from white supremacy entirely.
Lincoln is not even close to the same as Harriet Tubman.. Lincoln had an agenda and using the freedom of the slaves was necessary for him to achieve his ultimate goal. He didn’t give a damn about slavery until he saw a use for ending it.

Harriet Tubman was trying to free her people. She had no ulterior motive she just believed that bringing her people north would give them freedom. Just because it didn’t turn out that way doesn’t mean it’s necessary to downplay or dismiss her efforts. That is extremely disrespectful to her legacy.

Smart dumbasses acting up as usual. Obviously freed slaves still dealt with racism but they weren’t somebody’s fukken property. That shyt and dragging Harriet Tubman’s name through the mud just makes all this beyond dumb.

This ‘both sides’ trend of trying to act like everything that isn’t perfect is equally bad is annoying

I'm not gonna say shyt was sweet for freedmen in the 1820s but I'm pretty sure it was better than being in chattel slavery

:beli:

Okay you went from field slave to house slave. Are you free or not?

Freedom for black people comes when they get to live in and govern their own land like they did before cacs. That hasnt come yet. You're not free..
