Hulu acquires Weinstein documentary: report

Hulu has acquired exclusive U.S. rights to “Untouchable,” director Ursula McFarlane’s documentary about disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein, Variety reported on Sunday.
The film, which debuted at Sundance, outlines Weinstein’s rise in the film industry before his disgrace in 2017, amid a series of allegations of sexual harassment, assault and rape that began an international conversation about male privilege and eventually led Weinstein to be charged in New York with rape and several other crimes in May 2018. He has denied all charges.
“We are thrilled that ‘Untouchable’ has been acquired by Hulu, which is the perfect home in the U.S. for a film that should serve both as a cautionary tale for the younger generation and an enduring example of how seemingly unchecked power can be held to account when courageous people choose to speak out,” said Simon and Jonathan Chinn, co-founders of Lightbox, the shingle of production company Embankment Films that produced the documentary.
Macfarlane’s film was acquired for a seven-figure sum from Embankment Film, according to Variety. It is the third acquisition of a 2019 Sundance premiere by the streaming service, now owned by Disney, after Ryan White’s “Ask Dr. Ruth” and Liza Mandelup’s “Jawline."
