you have this pre-conceived notion what a qb is supposed to do.
some other people think otherwise.
alex smith is an average/slightly above average qb but he gets way too much shyt for playing it safe than other error-prone qbs of the same caliber who play it less safe and turn the ball over a lot more, for turning the ball over. 'at least he tried to throw it deep' is a dumb excuse when it comes to turnovers. smith at least realizes he cant make tough throws downfield and sticks to what he does best.
what disgusts me is the 'game manager' moniker. thats what youre supposed to as a qb. manage the game. not throw beautiful spirals and be some kind of alpha male bullshyt with the 'fukk it Im going to be the man and win the game right here' crap. situational football is exactly what people who created that term dont understand.
