Just ignore him..let’s stick to sharing great Afrobeats music

I think people forget that whilst, yeah, aframs can be a bit insular at times, what they are even moreso than insular is.......trendy. If something's hot, it's hot, and they gonna jump on it.:manny:

Above the fray.
Oh wow I thought you are were South Africans. Awesome! I prefer the South African sound because it is both modern and authentic to the African rhythm and if you have probably notice they incorporate their own indigenous language in most of their music. West African artists try to make commercial music with an African twist.
South Africans make music for the African ear...if that makes any sense.

I have a take on this and I want to know if you agree.
How many generations removed from Apartheid is SA now?
About 30 years since the beginning of the end of legal apartheid.

Just reading your comments, it seems though the post-apartheid era was filled with art that reached out to the rest of the world, and is now returning back to its roots and drawing from itself.

West Africans migrate and travel a lot, especially Nigerians. I'd guess that there is diaspora community of Nigerians in most countries on the continent and around the globe. A strike of college professors in the 1990s caused a lot of young Ghanaians to go to Western countries to complete their educations. It would be hard to imagine these communities existing in foreign countries and not absorbing cultural influences from them, and then not introducing those influences when they travel back home.

I listen to Highlife music, but I don't know enough about Afrobeat or SA music to know if I agree with your takes about the comparison. But I think these things might factor into those differences as you see it.

Can somebody explain what's going on on Twitter that Nigeria vs. Jamaicans is trending? Something to do with a music battle?
