I prefer dancehall reggae..

Afrobeats has no message, just some nice melodies..its the trap of world music.

Slack dancehall has always been around. But that did not negate the Roots and otherwise positive Black message in reggae.
With Afrobeats time will tell..it also does not even dominate in Africa, where the diverse home sounds still rule. Afrobeats is Nigerians stuff.

I listen to Reggae and Dancehall occasionally (need to make a playlist) but I def vibe more to AfroBeats. I love how versatile they sound too...They can sound like R&B on one song, then Hip Hop on the next, then like Dancehall after that, and then like House music in another

As far as America is concerned, Joanna is def the breakthrough song for the AfroBeats wave to invade the American market

I know London is a very big market for AfroBeats and it’s sibling genre Afro Swing and has been that way since more than half a decade ago

I feel like Jamaican migration to England helped push the global appeal of reggae at it's heights.

But the last time I was in London, I felt that African immigrants were overtaking the Jamaican community in influence. I don't know.

And with the African community having large numbers now in Paris, Italy, and Spain, afrobeats is bound to take over even american music.

That’s how it felt to me as well, even in Brixton to some extent.

a majority of the artist are Nigerian but to say it doesn’t dominate the airwaves in Africa is being facetious

This is a good point. I found myself listening to Rema over the weekend and thought the middle eastern vocal runs he does in some of his music had a pretty cool layering effect.

At first, I was questioning why he was jocking middle easterners but it grew on me.
