I dunno bro there’s a new style of dancehall music that’s emerging from Brooklyn called flex dance music or FDM for short which I feel like solved that not being able to merge contemporary sounds problem you mention look up hitmakerchinx he’s a pioneer of this genre And he was on Rihanna’s anti tour.

I just listened to this and to be honest, I don't think I heard anything "Dancehall" outside of the little chant-call that comes in around :30 secs. To me, something like this won't stand out enough as a new hybrid style unless they can make the Dancehall element stronger while blending in the other influences. This track is overwhelmingly displaying EDM-based influences.

Again it’s the bpm of the track that has you confused. It’s roughly 108bpm if you slow it down by 10 to 98bpm you’re going to hear it. I’m at work but I would have put up a quick vid to show you

Nah, it's not the BPM but more, the actual beats/rhythms; I just slowed it down in youtube (click on that gear icon and change the playback speed), and it still didn't reveal a heavy dancehall type influence

go thru at least the first 3 minutes if you can’t do the whole thing and tell me what you think based off the interview

first Wiz Kid now Ckay?

I legit thought afro beat window passed making the US market when Wiz bricked with that Drake feature

I don't really listen to it too much. I prefer Amapiano and Guinean music
but I wouldn't be surprise if this blows up early next year.

I just peeped the whole thing and from the sound bits In the video, I don't hear any real dancehall influences. What I'm hearing sounds more like a tribal/deep House groove with a few dancehall vocals on top (at 4:07 for example) but I don't hear a true blend of dancehall + other styles in the same way you can hear in Afrobeats or Amapiano.

flex dance music is dancehall music it's not even a discussion

^ a beat like this would've easily fit in that vybz kartel vs mavado war period of dancehall

fdm is never gonna blow up tho, shyt's always been this super underground instrumental genre. you never see actual dancehall artists hop on fdm beats. i don't think dancehall artists in jamaica are even aware that this shyt has been going on lol. if they are then they're clearly not interested. safaree's really the only big one but safaree came up as a flex dancer in NY so that's always been him, and ppl don't even look at him as a music artist anyways (more of a reality tv star)

idk if fdm is the answer to dancehall's problems but man i would love to see the current artists in jamaica give it a try. some of the best music from the last 5 years came from fdm producers
