Has Anyone Backpacked Before?

Loosely planning a backpacking trip, going from Portugal to Spain (perhaps Morocco) to France and then to Italy. I've got the money and will be buying my ticket soon as well as quitting my job to take off for a month or so. My plan is to leave in mid April and comeback (unless I decode otherwise) in June.

I'm asking because I would like to know if anyone has any advice or even tales to share for the forum and myself.
