Not quite coast to coast but from North to South. It's worth it, imo. Most established vehicle transports are insured etc. Sometimes peace of mind and the time and trouble you save may supercede the money you spend. But of course it's up to you.

Since you'll be going back east after the summer, are you planning to do the same thing?
Maybe ship one way and drive the other, cause spending around $3k is not the move.

A lot of.people in Cali have more than one car, none of your boys have a spare?
Kick them down some cash, and be careful as fukk with their ride.

I'm sure I could get someone to drop me something, my pops I think would be willing. Off habit I just like getting my own shyt but that is an option...

And yeah having to do it again in the fall, is something I'm open to, though if I can save money thru the other option I will...

How long did it take to arrive and who did you ship with?
Oh yeah

It took only 2 weeks each car and that was all the way over there. They do move fast, just understand that insurance and watch for damages. It could’ve been just my area though because they are trash at delivering anything.

So I offset-ed shipping my cars off and by the time I got in my new town my car was already here a week later.

It would be even faster for you probably. But I do like the roadtrip idea. If your car is in good condition it could be cool to take your time and take in the sights.

Looked into shipping a car across country once. But way too many scammers and shady companies out there.
:francis:

Somebody tried to get my motorcycle like this over the summer. I paid $40k for a M1000RR from a dealer in Arizona.

Luckily I was pretty locked in with the sales girl so we texted constantly. I passed on their own shipper because the dates weren’t ideal so I tried to find my own. The shipper I chose wanted the bag and couldn’t make my deadline (was going out the country so I wanted it by end of the week).

He decided to act as a broker and find a 3rd party to ship without telling me. 3rd party was a scammer a tried to pick my bike up from the dealer.

Saleswoman called me and asked if I had authorized a pickup with this carrier and I told her I had engaged with a different carrier and he had not confirmed his ability to pick up yet. But when the guy I HAD spoken with posted the trip as a broker, all the pickup information was used and someone just showed up, gave the info (my name, which bike etc) and tried to take my shyt.

She called the police while they waited but left before the pigs showed up. She gave them the security video though so I’m not sure what happened since she didn’t for them the bike anyway. I called the initial shipper back, told him what happened, cursed him the fukk out for trying to broker and almost got my shyt stolen, told him I was gonna come up there and beat the dog shyt out of him and was reporting him to the local news.

I just booked it with their shipper and told dude that I wanted it by this date but I know he can’t guarantee it. Bike got delivered the day before I left the country.

After Navy boot camp and A School I got my orders to Lemoore, CA
I went home to Miami and drove cross country on the 10

Miami-Pensacola
Pensacola-San Antonio
San Antonio-El Paso (wack ass drive, 9 hours of dirt and tumbleweeds)
El Paso-Phoenix (before I left I crossed over to Juarez in the middle of the Chapo-CDJ war while on Navy orders cuz fukk it)
Phoenix-LA (the most scenic)
LA-Lemoore

I saved bread on overnight stays by staying on bases. The 10 was fine.

This you gotta watch out for brokers and shyt who took your money then use a 3rd party. I’m in the process of moving some of my girls stuff out of storage back to her moms and so many front companies on shipping. The legit ones want an arm and a leg so we just gonna pack the U-Haul up and move it ourselves.

Definitely. I hadn’t even sent a deposit to the initial carrier because he couldn’t confirm if he could make the date. I guess he realized he couldn’t and tried to broker another carrier who ended up being a scammer and took the pickup info the first carrier posted. If they can’t provide direct service, do not allow them to broker.

i remember shipping my brand new car to DC when i moved there in 08. bought tht car in dec, shipped in march. clearly a rock or something hit the winedshiled while in transit cuz i had a whole crack across that bytch, was mad as hell since the one thing the shipping copany didn't cover was glass damage :martin:

edit: and i've driven across the country twice. did DC to cali and Chicago to Cali. 4 days for DC, 3 for chicago...both times in the summer tho. took 80 since i was headed back to the bay each time.

day 1 DC - chi
day 2 chi - north platte (nebraska :bryan: )
day 3 nebraska - salt lake city
day 4 salt lake city - oakland

the drive though wyoming was the most intimidating given how empty that state is and how far apart rest stops were, western wyoming through eastern utah was pretty but also a little scary going over those mountains

Gotta use enclosed transport only. Not that much more expensive in the grand scheme of things. It’s a lesson learned. Find out how much windshield repair is just in case it happens and let that be the max you’re willing to pay extra for enclosed.

And if so, what was your experience like?

I'm weighing the cost/benefit of driving or shipping my car, versus flying from Raleigh to Sacramento this summer, as opposed to flying. I'll be staying in Sacramento for the summer, is the plan, which in part hinges on the results of these impending custody cases here in NC...

So because I'd be there 2-3 months, rather than just my normal ~5 days or so, I'm debating driving. Shipping is an enticing option, because I don't really feel like driving 40 hours across 4 days or so; if I drive I'd only do like 10 hours/day. I'm not doing The Race 🤣...

The other option is that I can fly out there and just buy a car when I get there. I'm hesitant on this simply because cars are more expensive in California than they are here. If I buy one it would just be a beater, ain't trying to get nothing crazy, bit I don't know if I want the expense of another car, is the hesitation...

Anyone with experience driving or shipping, let me know how it went for you guys, or if you think I should take option 3!
dropped my expereince but after fully reading your post, i'd ship it given you're only staying out there 2-3 months. my frien was staying with us and just shipped her car oakland to bmore, the lowest quote she got was like $800 which seemed like a scam/shady company (they were taking forever to reply to her), think the avg was like 1200-1400

It's been years since I tried to ship my vehicle to another state. But even back then there was tons of scammers and all kinds of shady shyt going on.

I spoke to this one company in my city and was just about to schedule a pickup. But something told me to visit their office since it was only like 15 mins from my place. Turns out they hadn't had an office in that building in years. And dude was working out of his house and explained he would just bid the work out to a third party. And I could pay the delivery driver cash once it arrived at the destination.

I'm like WTF?? No thanks I ended up driving the car myself and taking a rental back one way. The way the guy explained the process literally anybody can bid on transporting vehicles. You won't have a clue who until they drop your vehicle off or steal it. Now I only deal with companies that I've seen there trucks doing deliveries.

Shipped my wife’s car from Michigan to Texas when she moved down. Get a few quotes, go with a reputable company, no issues.
