1st Ryback was no star on that level. Ryback was a bigger Damien Sandow. He had limited talent with a catchphrase. It seems every time a superstar is cut the Coli over rates him and says he was champ material being held back.

Please stop, Ryback was massively over in his CM Punk feud, was getting the type of reactions they kill for, and they failed to pull the trigger. He was getting reactions on par with 95-96 Ahmed Johnson, and after they didn’t pull the trigger, his reactions got noticeably subdued, especially in the ring.

Transitional champions don't hold the belt for like 7 months... if he was transitional, he'd have won it then passed it off to his next challenger. This MF had it longer than anybody that year except Brock.

Title reign length really doesn't matter, it's how they are booked. Rey Mysterio for example, held it for a similar amount of time but you could tell he's just a place holder, not someone they really wanted to make a big name. Same for punk when he first won pre-pipe bomb and had the long hair , he even said it himself on his documentary.

Lol that Tensai shyt...they bring him back based on the strength of his NJ run (which people didn't see, NJ was in a death spiral when he was at his hottest, their shows weren't popular in Japan, they weren't popular online in the West, no one gave a shyt at that time), bring him back ignoring his history even though he hadn't even been gone that long, then pretended he maybe was Japanese when he came back...at the very least he was a weeb who thought he was a samurai, yet his accoutrements and facial hair were Chinese/Mongolian instead of Japanese. I think it was only about a month in a half before they cut down his name and entrance gear before jobbing him out.
I wonder how some of these guys feel when they’re getting that random push. Are the optimistic like “yeah this is it”? Or are they sitting around like us just waiting for the shoe to drop?

Also people seem to forget he got dropped into that spot as a last minute replacement for Cena and Punk was always intended to hold the title until the Rock came to the Rumble, as that feud was already in place. On top of that, in hindsight, I don't see how anyone can still think making him champ was a great idea. He was 6 months into his run and later turned out to be a less charismatic Goldberg that injured people...
