But I did see the film on Valentine's Day which was why it made me so bitter. Brought back some bad memories.

she fell completely out of love and i can understand why, he was an aloholic smoker who just wanted to live a mediocre life. he deserved what he got in my opinion.

Yeah, but that's pretty much the reason she fell in love with him as well, his generally easygoing nature and whatnot. As he got older he just never matured, but she knew from the jump that he didn't have a high school diploma, wasn't the ambitious type, etc., etc.
