Black Privilege
...for infusing R&B with hip hop. Before them r&b was "soulful" , didn't have a "rap beat" or a bboy vibe to it. Slacks and dress shoes no hat-to-the-back or street vibe.
These cats were so popular when they came out damn near every song on the debut album was a single / had a video. They made new dressing styles trendy as fukk and every r&b group after them seemed to follow their blueprint.
To me they invented what we know of as "r&b hip hop" and there's almost no seperating the two. Straight r&b cats like Maxwell etc are the exception but r&b hip hop is considered the mainstream r&b
