No doubt I don't think this should even be up for debate.
Couple the crude lyrics with a bunch of fatherless kids and you have systematic failure of epic proportions

hip hop culture with 9 elements that allowed people to express themselves is good

corporate rap music filled with a train of bytch, nikka, fukk, shyt profanity which stifles creativity is horrendous and should be thrown in the bushes

Hip-hop / Rap music can be seen as contributing some considerable 'good', just depends on the source of your hip-hop. If the source is derived from the blood sucking-'soul' diminishing-profit craving-major record labels and mainstream media (not to mention those artists who are simply not serious about the art and are only out to make a buck).... then that quality of rap is likely to be disatrous to the malleable youth of today - and yet this is what we see most of today :snoop:

On the other hand, if it comes from any other alternative source (like the so-called "underground" and artists who are actually "artists" and so on..) then that quality of rap is likely to be conducive to what people may call 'good.'

In short, Hip-hop / Rap or any style of music remains neutral like, lets say a tool does... until some incompetent picks it up and puts themselves and others around at risk; or until an architect picks it up and puts together useful works of art.

So, if your answer is that hip-hop has done more bad to the black community, why hasn't it affected other, namely white and latino, communities in the same way? Those communities consume as much, if not more, rap music than the black community does so it stands to reason that hip-hop would harm them just as much right?

I'll wait.

:usure: i wouldnt be so quick to say that it 'hasnt.'

Besides i think that the black community appears to be more affected because of a combination of other factors. For example, most of the artist are Black (or african american). Therefore theres a sense of identification, which could lead to becoming more influenced or having the content of the music 'stick' more. Also the content of the music itself often relates to ghettos and the struggle and issues that come with it, which obviously would affect more to whom can relate..(black folk / minorities). And also we have record companies and mainstream media who glamorizes, promote and in a sense praises music of that kind which, inturn inspires others who can most identify with whats being promoted to make even more music like that and so, The cycle becomes AMPLIFIED and continuous..

Society, America and the economic agendas of those in charge have been bad to black people.

Hip hop has been good, except of course when it was taken over and integrated into the program that was already against us. There are still some good elements to it.

It's always crazy to me when I see people saying on hip hop sites, that hip hop is to blame for the continued destruction of the black community. On the list of 100 things that negatively affected us... hip hop is last.

Because (many) black people think of hip-hop as their culture, whereas whites tend to just think of it as entertainment. Black kids watch BET and whatnot and actually aspire to be like nyggas they see on there.

When I was younger I would've said that hiphop only brings attention to pre-existing issues, but at some point I realized I was just rationalizing shyt. The effect on black culture has definitely been negative, and this is coming from somebody that grew up on it.

So, did Jazz turn everyone into intellectuals? Did Blues turn everyone into existentialist? Essentially your argument is that en masse, the black community isn't intelligent enough to recognize highly fictional portrayals of urban life to be entertainment. And that because of this, a generation of black youth, unaffected by any larger societal issues, have chosen to fulfill their destiny's as laid out by the highly sensationalized fantasies presented in rap music.
:snoop:

That is one of the most racist arguments I've ever heard. Are you really that fukking stupid?

since it came out rap music has always been part of an identity in the ghetto, and its always been entertainment to people outside of it, that is not a racist notion at all, thats the truth, if you disagree you dont know what the fuk you are talking about

what is racist is that black people are merely victims and that black people cant or wont take control of our own culture and make it positive and make it work for us

those points have nothing to do with outside forces that oppress black people or suggesting that they they dont exist
