as for the thread, phonte is a very talent mc from a technical standpoint: he's articulate with the multis and rhymes on beats. but the nikka is corny. and most of his rhymes see him whining about more successful nikkas. he's the prototypical underground mc that makes music about how hard it is to be a "real" underground rapper. nikka is boring.

even if the occasional theme gets tired, no individual verse he's ever spit has been wack. and the only reason maybe the themes have played out is cause they've made so many albums and songs as little brother


and he turns those tired topics into good verses cause he involves humor




back when LB was poppin too, the gap between the multiplatinum artist and the hungry underground artist was of a far greater disparity than it is currently so the shyt he was saying was making sense for those years


it was when the overabundance of mixtapes/free albums trend just started to pop off. people dropping free tapes weren't getting deals like that back then.

Boring verses, not really wack but mostly boring.

I liked the Listening and the mixtape they did after that but I can only listen to the same cadences for so long. Part of the reason I still can't listen to his solo album without yawning.
