Album coulda been a classic without the $50 beats![]()
Except for Pete Rocks best beat of all time. This one of the funniest things I done heard all day
But you right, Rae went cheap as fukk with the beats and that’s the main problem with it
Those beats were straight up ass crack
Except for Pete Rocks best beat of all time.
I bought the LP instrumental just for that one beat 20+ or whatever years ago it was when it was released.
Pete did have a good beat with Sneakers on there but man, other than that, that album suffered severely from wack beats
This was cool, but probably the only other joint on there if we honest.
Passable, but he prolly blew the album budget getting Floyd and Zab to feature for the whole clip, hence the keyboard beats across the album.
There's a breakdown in the source or xxl (I can't remember which one) of every song and the production, thought process etc. Bizarrely the one great song from the album (Sneakers) Lex Diamonds recalls that he was tired that night regarding that song and didn't work very hard putting it together.![]()
Partly perhaps, but tbh it would have been various reasons as to why re RZA.Rae’s pride really got in his way of making another great album with RZA![]()
Partly perhaps, but tbh it would have been various reasons as to why re RZA.
- Rap budgets had shrunk, labels were reluctant to spend on sample clearances, you couldn't make another Purple Tape album, compared to years prior.
- Wu members wanted their independence and to establish a separate lane from Wu / RZA. RZA took 50% off the bottom line of everything, Power was most likely already taking that.
- RZA was off doing other shyt eg Tekitha, Ghost Dog, myriad of mid level projects and productions.
- Oli Power Grant was running shyt for Raekwon at the time. He was controlling projects, and most likely had a hand in producers and album budgets, along with label and a&r. Power would have put together the Zab, Floyd features, was networking a lot then, Brett Ratner was in the fold with them, Black & White film, Tyson etc.
- RZA's keyboard shyt around then was probably just as bland as the keyboard shyt on that album anyway.
