I've been thinking about this a lot since the Zimmerman verdict, truthfully I was expecting full scale rioting in Flordia and around the country, so I was surprised when nothing happened. Then I started thinking about how we live in a society where tv, Internet, and others luxuries have become commonplace in American households where life seems infinitely better here than say a 3rd world country, while a lot of people here a struggling to pay bills and can rarely afford to take a vacation or find time to pursue their real passion in life and force themselves to be stuck in a career and life they find unfulfilling they still have a roof over their head a means of transportation and communication (the average person does at least) so we take this in stride because we feel that even though the system is bullshyt and our goverment can do a lot better for the people if they wanted to is still not worth taking a risk to protest and sacrifice the contentness of their life? My question I guess would be is it worth it? Is the injustice we face cause enough to actually get up and do something about or is it that necessary evil we have to deal w/ to live in relative comfort?

people are to comfortable that's why, no one wants to take a stand for anything that will affect their meagre existent and way of life, no one wants to get out of their comfort zone.

I will agree with you on this one family...you're EXACTLY right

status quo has nikkas in limbo. When nikkas had to drink at seperate fountains, they had SOMETHING tangible to fight for. Now all of the fighting is in politics, it's invisible (ie: not tangible) Easy to fight slavery when you see shackles and Jim Crow when you see "whites only"

question is...how do you fight the "invisible shackles?" the "subtle racism?" THAT'S where we have issues

I dunno breh, I dunno. Everyone is just out for themselves, if it doesn't effect me :manny:, like look at that wild wing thing, i gurantee you the next day another group of blacks were there eating them wings and laughing like jason whitlock. People don't stand for anything anymore.

Imagine a bus strike like the montgomery bus strikes nowadays? ish wouldn't even last ten minutes. The media continues to feed you north korea, syria etc. like look little peasants you have it good. No one wants to fight for change.

The black manager rising in the companies doesn't give a damn about using his position to bring in other folks of colour in . That's one thing I noticed, growing up being so stupid I thought blacks looked out for each other only to find out the majority don't they will stab you in the back to get ahead.

but I think that's a PEOPLE thing...not even race fam.

It's bigger than that. I agree, with the whole Montgomery bus strike thing, but only to a degree...I just feel like it has to get to Trayvon/Zimmerman levels before cats are ready to take action. But looking at it, that's what it took in the Jim Crow days, people to say ENOUGH of this BS. That bus strike didn't happen overnight. It took many instances of violence and extreme prejudice before Rosa said, "nah, my feet are tired, I'm NOT moving from this spot"

I just think this generation isn't LOOKING for the injustices to fight for, it has become so nonchalant the attitude of "well, it ain't affecting me" the INDIFFERENCE has set in. As long as it's not happening where I'M at, it's cool...I think back then, there was just a LOT more compassion. When we shake the indifference off, THEN real change can and WILL commince

For the most part, people only fight when life gets so uncomfortable, the thought of death looks more pleasing than continuing on as is. Most people don't want to deal with getting shot shot, beat up, locked up or any of that unless it's absolutely necessary.

No. Every black person knows the justice system is a joke. Everyone knows white people despises us. The Zimmerman trial did not add to the narrative of the past 150 years.

He pretty much said fukk Trayvon and hated the boy because he was black, and the whites gave no fukks. Nothing shocking about that. Zimmerman is meeting owners of million dollar corporations.

Being that I'm heavily into philosophy, I think this may be the biggest fault humans have. It's like he have halted evolution and become complacent with where we are as a society.

There's a quote that describes this pretty well, but I can't for the life of me remember exactly how it goes or the author, but he describes how instead of improving ourselves as a society we think of ourselves as concrete, and finished beings.

This, and also people are extremely selfish nowadays. If it doesn't hurt them directly and perpetually in a very open way, its like :yeshrug:
