You can blame capitalism for society’s ills
America always used capitalism on the backs of labor to capitalize their profits
To play devils advocate one of the benefits of capitalism is the ability to generate income of your marketing. Supply and demand never runs out of style.
In the modern digital era, we have the ability to maximize dollars of any particular niche with the internet (Tik Tok, IG, Youtube).
Pre-internet was harder you had to go by word-of-mouth for notoriety.
- Capitalism fosters competition. This allows a wide range of selection of goods and services for consumers.
- It increases economic growth. Think of any industry that dominates -- cosmetics, clothing, food, electronics, etc.
Alas, to come back to the question, OP is talking about
character and morals of society. Society has become far more soft, politically correct, and gatekeeping nowadays. I'd argue that America always been toxic highkey. Just look at our past key events.
Society was way more cut-throat pre-civil rights era racism was at its peak. The violence and pandemonium faced by blacks (Emmett Till case, Alligator Babies case, KKK attacks, Black Tulsa burnout) is enough to prove America encourages degeneracy behaviors'. This country was found by violence case in point -- just look how Native Americans were exterminated.
Nowadays, social media is dictating society. Negativity and hatred assisted by algorithms. Mental illness being normalized more than ever -- public shootings causing mass hysteria, stabbings because of the lack of emotional control and outbreaks because of lack of self actualization. America is a mental asylum, this country promotes reactive behavior not critical thinking skills. It's a reason why Jay Z "dumb yourself down to make dollars" because that sentiment is exact!
