the thing about boxing, a lot of the fights just sell itself. if floyd or manny is fighting, you'll be watching no matter who they're fighting. the UFC has really stepped up their production game and although primetime is a rip-off of 24/7, its at least on par or exceeded 24/7 at this point in getting you hyped for the fight. their countdown shows can get you hyped even if you don't know or care about any of the fighters beforehand. the whole buildup for silva-sonnen was pretty sublime from a marketing perspective. they couldn't have got people hyped any more than they are

of course it has. boxing has a built-in market most of the time, the hardcore will watch the garbage cards as well as the big ones, so promotion isn't really needed except for the "bigger fights" where they're trying to reel the casual in (for PPV) or they're trying to get people to subscribe to HBO if there's a big matchup that didn't get to PPV.

HBO/SHO already has a boxing budget and it's not really a problem if they get low ratings. But for UFC.. those PPV's are how they eat. If 5 people buy them, they're in trouble. So they have to have better marketing by default.

Excited for Sonnen/Silva II, they've done a great job on the advertising making it sound epic.. which it's actually gonna be

Not exactly. It's like NBA & basketball are synonymous.

When people think of MMA, they think of the UFC.

To answer the OPs question...MMA won't surpass Boxing until the fighters are able to become their own brand. In the case of the UFC, Dana controls most everything. If the fighters unionize though :lawd:
