MIAMI -- Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside's All-Star break got started early when he was sent home by the team soon after he was ejected from Tuesday's blowout 119-101 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

Whiteside was immediately tossed at the 9:35 mark of the fourth quarter when he swung an elbow in apparent frustration toward the head of Spurs centerBoban Marjanovic as they battled for position near the free throw line.

Whiteside remained on the court for several moments as game officials reviewed the altercation. He was assessed a flagrant foul 2, which resulted in an automatic ejection and a one-game suspension. Heat teammates said Whiteside had already left the arena by the time they returned to the locker room after the game, and coach Erik Spoelstra confirmed that Whiteside was told to leave.

"That's something we'll deal with with Hassan," Spoelstra said. "We don't condone that kind of play. We've been through this with him before. But it's a disappointing play. That's not a basketball play."

Boston after delivering a forearm blow to the back of Kelly Olynyk's back and neck. A week earlier, Whiteside was ejected for his role in an altercation on the court with Phoenix Suns center Alex Len, who was also tossed and fined.

Whiteside, the NBA's leader in blocked shots, has avoided similar altercations on the court this season in what is a contract year. He'll enter free agency this summer after earning $990,000 in the second season of a two-year deal he signed with Miami. Whiteside is in line for a major contract in free agency that could be in the range of $80 million over four years, according to some NBA projections.

Teammates who have mostly tried to keep Whiteside in line expressed disappointment over his setback.

"You never turn your back on your teammate, but at the same time you are not always in a position to grab someone's hand and walk them through every step of the way," Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. "He has been pretty good to this point [in the season]. Everyone has a lapse in judgement and obviously he had one. ... Sometimes, we don't know what he is thinking, but like I said, we support each other."

Heat forward Chris Bosh, who serves as a team co-captain with Wade, said Whiteside needs to better understand there's a lot at stake for him this season. Whiteside ranks among the top 10 players in the league in blocks, rebounds and field goal percentage and averages 12.2 points, 11 boards and 3.9 blocks per game. If the flagrant 2 isn't reduced on an appeal to the league, Whiteside would serve his suspension when the Heat return from the All-Star break for a Feb. 19 game in Atlanta.

"The next step for him is really learning about reputation," Bosh said. "Unfortunately, he's taken a step back. You have to build your reputation back up. Whether it's right or wrong, whether he made contact or not, I really don't know. But people see that and tend to expect certain things."

Its crazy how Boban can be all over the back of him (a clear foul) and nothing is called.. And the second he reacts to it its now an issue.. Boban even said post game that the elbow didn't make contact, and he didn't think it was a dirty play..

:pacspit: Spolstra for not sticking up for his guy .. The Heat have ZERO chance of taking the east without Whiteside and his historical year

:salute:Whiteside.. Keep doing your thing playa.. you going to get paid regardless of how many CACs you knock out this year

Why should Spoelstra stick up for him when he puts himself in situations like this and costs his team by getting ejected? :jbhmm:

spo really hates the dude. I don't know what hassan did to him....maybe he flirts with his bytch or something, but spo just flat out hates him. they never talk to eachother. spo will joke and high five the other guys, but when he passes hassan it's like they don't even know eachother. I think that flagrant was more an accumulation of frustration over the entire season. hassan aint happy anymore and this whole situation gettin ugly as hell. but of course, spo is teflon in miami so hassan will most likely be gone next year and we'll have nothing to show for it. hassan gonna slaughter us in his first game back in miami:francis:

He's had this problem all year. He can block and rebound like a motherfukker but he seems to be a bit of a headcase still and stuff like intergrating team defense (which I thought he was getting better at) has been a problem.

Cats just see how he blocks all these shots and see that as a guarantee to stop offenses but there's a lot of issues with him still and there have been moments they play better without him.

He's polarizing with the Heat fanbase. Some ride for him cause of what they see with the eye but then others show all this other stuff.

since the new year the heat have had a top 2 defensive rating WITH hassan on the floor. without hassan we just got blown out by a rockets team with half their players out. besides this flagrant tonight, he's shown NO issues of being a head case this year. dude hasn't even had a technical all season. and heat fans who WATCH games will tell you we are better with hassan on the floor period. even opposing announcers pretty much clown spoelstra when he benches hassan and their teams do layup drills on us. and implementing TEAM defense is not squarely on hassan, it's on everybody. from top to bottom, the entire team has been inconsistent as hell.

Neither Wade or bosh stood up for him either though.

Because they' re mature enough to understand that you have take the lead of your coach and not create a public rift of insubordination in situations like this..

If E.S had stuck up for Whiteside .. Im sure that Bosh and Wade would have followed `that lead ..

So I don't read to much into their criticism... Sheit one Morris twins threw a towel at Hornecek and the other one yelled at him, and in the post game presser had the nerve to say " I love my coach and this organization ", so you have to read between the lines with a lot of these quotes .. The players (the smart ones) are "normally" going to make PC comments in public

His player was being mugged with no call..

What other reason does a coach need to stick up for his player, :martin:.. when every other good coach does
He was not getting "mugged" - they were both jostling for position for a potential rebound (shyt that happens on most free throw attempts) - Whiteside felt the need to throw an elbow because his short fuse ran out. What the hell did the Bosnian Bigfoot do to warrant being called for a foul?

Basketball Rules: Over-the-Back Foul

You ever heard of something called 'over the back"

And Boban was doing all the for a 80% ft shooter and up 10 points. Hes not acclimated to the professionalism in the NBA game, and that was really was the problem was.. Refs aren't even looking for a foul in that situation.

Yo, Im tired of replying to your dumb ass.. You're annoying AF, and I mean that seriously.. U close to going back on ignore for another year... Simply stop quoting me unless you have something intelligent to say

Which means never:martin:
