Have we been pronouncing Dwyane Wade's name wrong?

I just listened to an interview of Wade talking about the Canadian anthem incident, and he said, ..."people who know Dwyane Wade know I wasn't being disrespectful."

But the way he pronounced it is the way it's spelled. He said it as "Dwuh-y-ane" I had never heard him pronounce his own name before, but he definitely didn't pronounce it as Duh-wayne.

I always wonder why it was spelled Dwyane, but supposedly pronounced as Duh-wayne. Maybe everyone's been wrong.

Yeah his name was supposed to be regular "Dwayne" but the hospital or something misspelled it typo and his mom never bothered to get it changed.

Every teams' media guide I've ever been privy to (college & pro, various sports) have always printed the proper pronunciations for at least the players with uncommon names or names that seem normal to the naked eye but sound different.

If the guys listed in this thread never had it changed in thr guides, they probably just didn't care about it
