Ever think that religion found us by fate? Its actually ironic that we went away from god and got put into slavery like prophecy says, then god unknowingly was bought back to us by our kidnappers who tried to disguise it as being about them,as proof they were superior. But through discernment and spirituality you had people like Harriet Tubman and Nat Turner who freed many slaves and caused uprisings because they read through the lines and saw the truth. Then you had the civil rights movement which was led by the church and Islam, which allowed us to make even further strides in gaining our rights. Now you tell me what has athiesm done for black people in America? Because Im looking around and seeing what a lack of god and lack of belief is doing, and its not pretty:martin:. All i see is a bunch of europeanized assimilated people going right back into a different form of bondage again, what will this be?the 3rd time now:snoop:. Guess god will have to work his "magic" once again:francis:.

Making an argument that black atheists don't exist / never met one only exposes how narrow your worldview and life experiences are.

Most people don't discuss religion openly, no one wearing an "I'm an atheist" shirt to work. You'd have to connect with someone to get them to open up about their beliefs, especially if it's a belief that is often looked down on.

So if you haven't met any black atheists, it's possible you just haven't connected with enough black people. They obviously exist, do a better job of finding them.

There are plenty.
Its not like being a cac, where there's an open community of atheists (many of them racist), considering the Black community holds church at its center.
They don't talk about much, it doesn't bold well if you're dating other Black people, most women especially are Christian.

There are more Black atheist men than there are women.
I'm one of them.

I've thought of the bible as a silly book ever since I was a kid.

How ya doin OP?
Word. I couldn't quite articulate it as a kid hit I'd be sitting in church and Sunday school all the time just like :francis: the whole time.

Helps that my family isn't particularly religious to begin with. I never even stepped foot in a church until we moved back to NY when I was 7, and that's when we started going regularly cuz my moms coworker invited her. We went there for the community, not the religious aspect.

My dads mother was one of those crazy ass religious zealots with backwards beliefs and he always had to check her on it. Probably didn't want me in that environment.

I am OP. I'm not an a$$hole with it though you'd never know unless we really get into a deep discussion. Actually, when I'm around older folks and they're talking about god I just nod and fake agree

I'm one and I know a handful in real life.
I know a ton of black atheist online though, it seems like the majority black liberals and progressives I see online lean that way
I know because I use to be a believer and argue with them online sounding like an idiot regarding certain subjects where religious dogma had clouded my logic
going back as far as 2005 the majority of my gfs were atheist too, not even by choice as i was still a believer then but intellectually I always had more in common with them then not

You got one right here. Well more agnostic because I don't believe that we're here just because our planet is in the right position in the solar system. But I'm also not like, "It's all God's doing!" I don't really bring it up in public because I come from a whole family of Christians.
