I am OP. I'm not an a$$hole with it though you'd never know unless we really get into a deep discussion. Actually, when I'm around older folks and they're talking about god I just nod and fake agree
That’s what I do lol

I'm agnostic and my brother is atheist. We learn to keep that shyt to ourselves because coming from a Haitian fam that were heavy in the Christian stuff it was a struggle if we tried to say we didn't believe.

This essentially. I’m Ghanaian with a Baptist preacher father. For my own safety I have to keep my agnosticism to myself.

I'm black, I grew up heavy in the church - like, called up to pray in front of the congregation at ten - and I'm a nihilist.

I use the fact that life is without express purpose, there is no god and we aren't here for any inherent reason to... give myself purpose instead of letting someone or something else define who I want to be. So, I generally do right by everyone not because some cosmic father in sky will wag his finger reproachfully at me, but because I choose to act as a positive force in the world just because that seems like the right thing to do. Plus, I can't hate people who are a$$holes if I'm one myself. Hypocrisy is for the birds, bruh.

Good question. I used to be super religious, but it just never vibed with my innate rationality. I used to be scared to even question my beliefs. Eventually I went down the rabbit hole of researching where Christianity came from, how my people came to accept Christianity, how Christianity basically comes from older religions, ancient african spirituality, etc. and came to the conclusion that the evidence presented for the belief of God as defined by Christianity and other mainstream religions left much to be desired.
So you can only conceptualize the idea of a god through the lens of a major religion?

I'm agnostic, I accept that a pantheistic definition of "god" is possible
I just don't mention it when black people talking about god unless explicitly asked and then I just say "I don't know"
If bytches I'm tryna smash ask me tho, I just lie and go along with that shyt till I get the cheeks or she dubs me for some other reason:yeshrug:

That's more like existentialism, nihilists often make arguments for amorality because they believe life has no meaning

The thread is about religion and black Americans I assume who else would MFs be praying to ?? Zeus? Buddha? Vishnu?? Lol
Besides the whole christianity strawman, you do know that theres a form a christianity that originates in Africa right?

It also predates the bible by a large margin

Here's the thing tho, I never said anything about Christianity. If you don't believe in Christianity thats one thing, but to completely deny the very idea of a higher power/God is another altogether. If you can put religion to the side for a min, can you honestly tell me you've never felt or experienced anything that you couldn't explain and could possibly attribute to there being a God? Not ever?

All your posts make reference to a god , god, god ; no goddess. Not exactly an impartial.phrase.. implies male and monotheism when we know for a fact others believe otherwise. deity/deities would at least make you sound like you're impartial to others religious beliefs. Christian/judeo apologists aren't difficult to spot.

Anybody can convince themselves of literally anything, it doesn't automatically make it empirically true.

Majority of the people on the coli are atheists. The few black atheists I've met offline usually were :mjpls:. Didn't associate with black people, didn't date black people people, etc. Usually were very boule type of black people.

What's messed up is brehs jump into atheism because of what white people introduced to them as religion..
