I'm speaking from an Islamic perspective. In Islam, Satan (Iblees as he is called in Islam) was created from a smokeless flame of fire while the angels were created from light. (Humans were created from clay, which Satan regarded as a lesser substance which is why he rejected to bow down to Adam unlike the angels who bowed down willingly).

Also, angels do not have free will and are physically incapable of committing acts of disobedience or acts of evil. They are purely devoted to God. Humans and Jinn, however, have free will. We can choose to devote ourselves to God or not.

Satan is from amongst the Jinn. The Jinn are more ancient than humans.

I actually know - or knew - someone that was a practicing satanist. Straight up and down.

If you looked at him you would not think he was one. He was pretty clean cut and his background was pretty tempered with his father being a preacher and his mother a teacher. And his home didn't seem eerie on the surface level, but peering deeper into it and his ideology I was like, okay this guy is an actual satanist. He told me some thing that seemed quite out there though, but I don't speak to the guy anymore.

I read this many years ago. Don't remember where, might be on his Wikipedia page. He did a lot of things to get closer to these "spirits" because he thought he would receive deep insights and wisdoms. Instead he said that they were primitive and not that intelligent.

He told me he could not only control two demons that were present with him, but they also told him how to heal himself instantly from injuries such as cuts, bruises etc..., and that they would cause devastation to another person's life if he ordered them. They told him secrets (he never told me what they were).

He did meditate everyday in the morning though so he was committed and believed everything he said.

But I do believe people that get into witchcraft, satanism etc...., undergo changes in mentality and disposition. Whether the mystical aspects are real or not is debatable.
