How I play it.......

I may give them the phrases...."got enough friends" "not what I am looking for" etc....I do make exceptions for for those who have other attractive friends/acquaintances in their circles. As someone who has been friend-zoned a few times.....its good to have so-called "platonic female friends"....from prior experience, they can and usually do open up the doors to network with even more women.

I did back in 08. I met up with a chick from POF who was gorgeous, no doubt. She was half black/puerto rican. We went on one date, at the time I was unemployed (just got layed off), wasn't in fresh gear or nothing and we went out to the bar for drinks. I told her all the things happening in my life at the present(unemployed, older car etc) I enjoyed myself and asked once or twice to go back out on another date and she hit me with the "Your cool but I think we can only be friends." I hit her back and said "I got plenty of friends of now, If I can only be your friend then I don't want to be your friend." I heard her gasp and she paused for a few seconds before saying "Ok."

I think I low keyed fukked with her ego. I am large dude who was doing bad in life at the time. I guess based on looks she was supposed to be leagues ahead of me. She assumed I was one of those lames willing to play that friend zone shyt and I could hear how my rejection kinda fukked with her. I'm glad it went like that cuz that was the first time I ever rejected a friend zone and it was liberating. Since then I havent' been back in that zone since.

I think she placed you in the friend zone, because you didn't have a job, breh. Some woman isn't going to place a brother with no job as priority above other established candidates. Beside that, I'm happy that you didn't trap yourself in the zone.

The friend zone is for suckas.

Yea, after having a condo in the friend zone of one chick for damn near 6 years, I simply rejected if chicks tried to slide me into the girlfriend role. Got me laid twice out of sheer audacity, and a coworker I was crushing hard on was taking shots at me for months.

You know you a good dude when a chick despairs about losing your attention and presence outright, but more often than not, saying "no" to the friend zone kills whatever relationship there was. Accepting the potential for loss lets you be free.

Back in college the girl that I was messing with for a few months tried that. I remember her telling me that she was confused about her feelings and that she just wanted to be friends. I told her calmly and matter of factly that I'm not going to be her friend and got up and left. It looked like someone snatched her soul out of her.

Long story short, the very next day she saw me and apologized, explained her feelings yada yada yada and fell back in line with the program. She and I have now been married for 10 years.
