Its a partnership, and nothing more.
You can call it a "friendship" all you want for the sake of playing the game, but you must never truly accept it as such or internalize such a thought. You NEED friends outside of your relationship at all times that you have stronger bonds than your personal relationship that you can lean on in times of serious need.
Anyone who invests that much in their partner has no real support system.
I'm not even saying they'll break up, but even if a serious argument breaks out, he'll see how much his girl "loves" and "supports" him.
