What I come to realize recently being I really do have a disdain for a lot of the newer drumless beats is that it’s not just the drumless part of it. Drumless beats have been around but usually there would be some form of driving force in the beat still. Now more than ever not only is it no drums, but the samples sound hallow and really just lazy. I just can’t get jiggy with the majority of them.

think the difference with this is, that it wasn't a slow ass beat that sounds like it's stuck in a time warp. Fit the theme of the album perfectly.

A lot of it seems "drugged out" or catering to those that are. A beat isn't necessarily wack because it's missing drums, it's also missing bass and some driving force musically a lot of times.

Anyways, sometimes it's dope and it works and sometimes it doesn't. I don't hate the trend, but it's not really my thing I've realized

Somehow I agree with all the posts above

They are usually boring, More than a couple is pushing it etc. etc.
It would take true creativity both vocally and production wise to pull it off successfully for a whole album


The other thing is (present day) not all drumless beats are created equal, That's why Madlib gets less flack than Al

His drumless shyt is often funkier/more soulful than Al's shyt with drums (see Freestyle S**t for example)

+ there's the more layered shyt like some of Jay Elecs stuff

Generally dudes should give it a rest though, Get creative.
