One thing I would have asked Havoc about is progression of sound, as a producer. I can tell when a RZA beat was made based on his progression as a producer. By 1997 he had strings incorporated, his snares sounded cleaner, etc. With Havoc...Hell On Earth doesn't sound like The Infamous. You can tell it's Havoc (that snare echo is unmistakable) but he his samples and style shifted enough to feel like he made a step up. Kanye always had the soul beats but by his second album his sound really progressed. Dre, Alchemist, Madlib, etc. All evolved.

My issue with a lot of the newer guys today is I don't see any progression. What's the difference between a ConductorWilliams beat today vs four years ago? Daringer? Craven? These guys love saying this "movement" is the most important thing in rap yet there's been more evolution in trap over the last 5 years than this shyt.

Depends entirely on the producer IMO. Alchemist, Madlib, and RZA know exactly what to do and use to keep a drumless beat hot. Marci when he's focused too.

Daringer and Nicholas Craven? Depends entirely on the sample they use. If that shyt drones on too long or isnt catchy enough...

I have no issue with drumless beats and enjoy multiple albums/artists that use them. My issue with the "movement" is how stagnant it is, creatively and technically. I heard Guru say awhile ago that the game is full of producers who heard a Dilla tape and started imitating it, not realizing that the tapes Dilla made months later showed clear progression. These guys never grow. They often work with rappers who show zero growth or creativity. And the result is...well, a lot of shyt Nicholas Craven does.

For every Mach Hommy or Navy Blue there are 10 dudes rapping over this shyt with the lamest, most basic bars and it creates very vapid music when you pair that with a drumless loop.

Ran need to throw that nicca Craven in the bushes for at least 1 disc
