I respect black colleges, but i could never attend one :manny:

I knew this years ago that employers especially in fortune 500 companies look at the school u attend and make assumptions about the type of learning u'll receive. a brother or sister from a local community college has a better chance getting a job before someone from a black college, that's just the way it is

Proud graduate of North Carolina A&T State University and we have the BIGGEST Career fair in the state. The same state with schools named Duke, UNC, NC State. Pretty much everyone who graduates with an STEM degree from NCATSU can get a good job at Fortune 500's because every one of them come to the job fair. These Fortune 500's are all about diversity these days, i know, because i work for one in the top 100.

My sample size is like 10-15 but everyone every Aggie I've met has been on point and ambitious (trying to reach the next level and succeeding).

Black people need to support their own institutions. There's no reason why our schools shouldn't be elite. Maybe not every HBCU but, a few of them. Howard, Spelman, Hampton, Morehouse, A&T, Xavier, FAMU. If we supported our institutions more, they could rival some of those top schools. Don't listen to the comments in this thread. You go to Morehouse and graduate with a 3.5, you'll have more than enough options to choose from. Goldman Sachs doesn't interview at [random PWI]. BOA Merrill Lynch or Google doesn't interview at [random PWI] either. They come here though :sas1: Those big companies go to the Ivies, other top private unis and public ivies........and the top hbcus for their diversity recruits :sas1: Unless you're an athlete, you would be better off at an HBCU. You can do grad/professional school at a PWI or Ivy. And to the people complaining about the price.......then, why are you enrolling in white private schools? :sas2:

Although I only attended elite PWIs, I completely support HBCUs. Just like there are good and bad PWIs, there are good and bad HBCUs.

Most of the black graduate students at my former school graduated from HBCUs. In fact, they produce the most black undergrads who eventually go on to earn PhDs.

I would have been happy to attend Spelman, but they never sent my financial aid package (yes that part was shade).

You're right. HBCU's are cool for undergrad, especially if you have the intent of getting a 4.0 and attending an elite grad school. So you can say "I experienced it" and go on to become an outstanding member of society.

Can't go to an HBCU for grad school or beyond though. :scusthov: Half the professors don't even have PhD's.

I sound like @Chris.B ouchea. :mjlol:

Not reading all of this but it all boils down to white employers not liking hbcu's and black people see this and they don't want to waste money at a school that's not gonna get them ahead. It's ashame. That employers do this.

The outer limits
This is why I always go back during homecoming and trick off....call it a mini stimulus package :yeshrug:

Nah, but for real it's sad. There is a lot of history at some of these schools, but the school business is changing so they have to adapt...even PWIs are struggling with the the availability of online classes. I wish some of my lil cousins weren't such c00ns and went to either Morehouse, Howard, or Hampton. The type of education you receive is a bargain for what your paying.

I would always encourage young people to go to HBCUs. They are literally the only places on earth where you can see black people in mass doing something net positive. It's life altering...

Imagine being at morehouse and seeing 500+ black people get degrees...I want my son to see that

True. A&T has branded itself well among employers. Good administration there along with its i40 rival, Winston-Salem State.
