Question:

When/Where did this "kings/queens" talk begin in the black community? How did this movement start and what's it based on if anything?

And do many other black people in the diaspora refer to their as kings and queens?

Im asking because i always read womens dating profiles and they always be talking about "queen looking for her Kings" or "my dear Kings, please ...."

As I see it, it's a trend just among african americans. It was originally meant to be taken as "our history in america doesn't start with slavery" but now it's basically innanet jive, hotep doublespeak. Not always, but enough. Another notch on the fake consciousness belt. On a good note, a bunch of black folks use it as a replacement for "nikka". I personally prefer "God" but :yeshrug:. I actually wrote a blog that I need to revise about this question.

Yeah ive never heard about other black diaspora referring to themselves as kings/queens and wondered if it was something that started during/after the U.S. civil rights movement or perhaps some movie or something. I've heard of some of the anglo-caribbeans talking about "queen of my castle" in songs referring to their wives but that's about it.

I used to roll my eyes when i would hear some people would keep saying "we were kings! We were kings blah blah blah" thinking to myself "if everyone was a damn king who was their peasants/subjects of said kingdoms?" but now i get what they mean. I guess they were talking about, like you said, that our history doesnt start with blacks being just enslaved. I guess a better way to put it would be to say there were many african kingdons which we all know.

But im sure the trend started at some point around a specific event/movement and i'd love to hear about it. I'll check the blog when i have time
