I was just in NY and love that city, so of course I loved all the scenes of NY at night, the dark cinematography, the depiction of the city, as it breathes, and kind of urban fairly tale turned bleak nightmare, as the story unfolds. It's almost enough to kind of wish the story didn't divert into the murder so soon, nevertheless, the tension and growing feeling of dread and death is very well done. The scene at the gas station was great, and such an ominous foreshadowing, it feels like horror for a minute or two.
I think the interaction between Andrea and Nas (LOL) is good, some of the lines were a bit much, and Nas starts sounding like C from Bronx Tale a bit too much from time to time. The supporting characters are very good, the Detective esp. I don't have many criticisms, aside from the set up is just a little contrived....No Uber, no Lyft? No regular taxi? Was he going to drive his Dad's cab back drunk? And the femme fatale, who happens to be a wealthy, troubled gorgeous rich girl getting in and wanting to hang out with a cab driver isn't quite believable.....but, in it's defense, that's kind of the fairy tale it begins with, and gets darker and darker as it goes. Also, the precinct where he was held, pretty unlikely all that would be occurring in the same area. But, again, part of the theme, and overall approach. Reminds me of Scorcese 'After Hours'
I am not all that sure there will be a surprise killer, I think the narrative points to it being someone not shown yet, obviously this girl has a handful of troubled, disturbed exes. It's also possible he's guilty, definitely left up for interpretation. This was needed for the summer, a dark, New York drama.
