You're picking a battle with the dictionary. What sort of retort should I provide you with?
Sacrifice is defined as "
give up (something valued) for the sake of other considerations". To meet this definition, all someone needs to do is give up something of value on consideration of someone else.
Time, pride, freedom are all things people value, and things people providing for a family will have to sacrifice.
The challenge is whether or not it should be praised. You can argue that they are the sacrifices someone should be expected to make when deciding to bring children into the world. Whilst I don't disagree with that, seeing so many people fail to do the bare minimum has given me a bit more appreciation for those who deliver on what is expected.
