From the NFL Network's Ian Rapaport: Jordy Nelson had a procedure on a knee to fix an old nerve issue he's dealt with off and on since college. The procedure tries to minimize impact of the nerve. He decided to deal with it now rather than fight it all season. James Jones has a similar issue and is fine now.

How long will it take to recover?

It's remarkable how easy Bakhtiari has made it look in the first 10 days.
Ken Ruettgers, a first-round pick in 1985, was all thumbs until midway through his first season. Tony Mandarich was the bust of all busts, of course, but linemen such as Earl Dotson, Marco Rivera, Breno Giacomini, Jamon Meredith, T.J. Lang and Sherrod, among many others, floundered as rookies.
Bakhtiari jumped in against Clay Matthews the first morning of pads and stymied him in the one-on-one rush drill as if it was no big deal. He has gone 2-0 against Matthews and 9-2-3 overall, including 5-0-1 at left tackle and 4-2-2 at right.
The other night Bakhtiari alternated on the right side, finishing with 31 snaps.
Defensive end Mike Daniels said it was obvious that Bakhtiari was well-coached at Colorado even though the program fell into disrepair. He kick-steps beautifully regardless of side, appears to possess an excellent feel for blocking angles, has quick, active hands and always seems to be under control, even against stunts and blitzes.
Granted, Bakhtiari was matched against rookie linebacker Nate Palmer on 10 of his 20 pass plays. Nevertheless, the quarterback was never even threatened by his man.
In the run game, he kept his feet moving and his pads down at the point of attack. On plays away, he was fast to the linebacker level and persistently kept after defenders.
Alex Green was able to cut back for 6 yards because Bakhtiari sustained his back-side block so vigorously on Palmer.
Perhaps most noteworthy was the degree of nastiness he displayed.
When Lang double-teamed Palmer on a rush, Bakhtiari applied the finishing touch and put him down hard. He pancaked C.J. Wilson at the point. He locked up with B.J. Raji, gained movement and pushed him over a pile.
Time after time, the rookie tried to get the last shove in. That might not be important in the outcome of a play, but over time a player that seeks to establish a level of physical superiority eventually will win out.
Bakhtiari, whose 40-yard dash time of 5.08 compared to Newhouse's 5.00 and Bulaga's 5.23, showed tremendous speed and hustle trying to chase down cornerback James Nixon on his long interception return.
If one chooses to ding him on a play, it would be a 3-yard run in which Palmer shed him and assisted on the tackle.
The majority of the 13 scouts to offer opinions on Bakhtiari before and shortly after the draft categorized him as a finesse blocker. Maybe some were turned off by his decision to declare a year early, but there has been nothing soft about his play in Green Bay.
With 34-inch arms, the same length as Newhouse's and an inch longer than Bulaga's, Bakhtiari appears to have the length for tackle as well. And for being just 21, he comes across as mature well beyond his years.
It's inevitable that Bakhtiari will have bad practices and shaky games. Every rookie does.
So far, he has performed as if he was drafted in the first or second rounds, not the fourth.
The Packers haven't had all five starters in the offensive line start every game since 2003. Among the injury fill-ins that started at least five games were Grey Ruegamer in 2004, Tony Moll in '06, Jason Spitz in '09, Bulaga in '10, Newhouse in '11 and Barclay a year ago.
Mike Sherman, McCarthy and their line coaches made do, just as New England did minus two starters to win the 38th Super Bowl and Pittsburgh did minus its center and both tackles in the 45th Super Bowl against Green Bay.
Last August, Pro Bowl guard Davin Joseph of Tampa Bay blew out his kneecap. The Buccaneers plugged in a backup and improved from 21st to ninth in total offense.
No, the losses of Bulaga and Tretter don't help, but the significance pales in comparison to San Francisco already losing wide receiver Michael Crabtree and nickel back Chris Culliver and Seattle having to go without receiver-returner Percy Harvin.
The Packers believe Ted Thompson's scouting acumen and the resultant strength of their 90-man roster gives them the edge when injuries strike.
There's no need for despair. The Packers will plug in and play just fine.

So far Bahktiari has been great in camp as you all know. And McCarthy made clear that his intentions are to keep Bahktiari at LT and Newhouse at RT(unless Barclay beats him out), and Bahktiari is really taking advantage of that opportunity by not only playing good as he has, but stepping his game up even more. Here's a quote from practice:
''He took advantage of those opportunities on Tuesday, as he has throughout training camp. He showed his strength by driving powerful outside linebacker Andy Mulumba off the ball during a team period that emphasized the running game. He showed his pass-protection prowess by going 4-0 during the daily one-on-one drill, including wins against Clay Matthews and Johnny Jolly. During a team period, he blocked Dezman Moses for eternity as Graham Harrell searched in vain for a receiver, and his stuffed blitzing linebacker Terrell Manning.''
“I’ve matured very quickly throughout this whole process, learning the plays, adjusting to the speed of the game going against top-tier talent. That’s been a big thing,” he said. “They’ve seen I haven’t hit too many speed bumps and I’ve transitioned pretty well. With that, they’re giving me a big responsibility and I’m going to have to step up to the plate.”

He still needs experience. Im not counting on him to fail obviously but i've read too many positive articles about players who were suppose to be great due to TC and practice reports but failed horribly on the field when it matter. Here's hoping he isn't one of them...

My thoughts on last night vs. ARI:

* Harrell is bad. Just seeing Young for one play it seems like he is superior. I think Young should go into the year as the number 2.
* Franklin and Starks both looked solid.
* Black Crabtree #83 played well.
* If Datone is seriously hurt, that's awful.
* Bahktiari looked very solid.
* House looked very bad.
* Hyde got owned on that one fade route in the end zone, but he looks fearless when it comes to tackling.

Packers' Bakhtiari may be protector Rodgers needed
By The Sports Xchange | The SportsXchange – 2 hours 18 minutes ago

GREEN BAY, Wisc. -- If the Green Bay Packers were looking for the silver lining in a 17-0 preseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals Friday, all they had to do was look at quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

He was still standing.

The All-Pro quarterback completed only 3 of 5 passes for 62 yards, but the best statistic was that he was not sacked, not even touched, in large part because of rookie left tackle David Bakhtiari.

It appears Bakhtiari may be a good replacement for Bryan Bulaga, who is out for the season after tearing an ACL last week.

Bakhtiari, a fourth-round draft pick out of Colorado, looked the part of a reliable left tackle as he played the full first half.

"I didn't get touched tonight," Rodgers said. "We had a few dropbacks, so I'm sure he was pretty good over there. It's nice when you're not worried about him, and tonight I wasn't worried about him. He's a confident kid. I think he's got a bright future for us. For him, it's about experience and going against good pass rushers, and next week will be a good challenge with those (defensive) guys they have in St. Louis."

The Packers' next game is Aug. 17 against the St. Louis Rams.

"He was out there probably 100 percent with his assignments," left guard Josh Sitton said of Bakhtiari's performance. "He seemed to be just fine. I'm positive that he can go out there and do it all year."

It has been a fast ascent for Bakhtiari. In a matter of days, Bakhtiari went from being thrown in the mix for contending for the starting job at right tackle to all but being handed the starting job at left tackle as a rookie.

The season-ending torn ACL by Bulaga in the intrasquad scrimmage at Lambeau Field on Aug. 3 opened the door. And the rookie accepted the challenge.

What the 6-foot-4, 300-pound Bakhtiari lacks in massive size for the critical position to protect Rodgers' back side, he makes up for with athleticism, nimble feet and shrewd attention to detail.

41st was the worsest turf on the earth...
Johnny Jolly brehs.... :blessed:

Happy that Lacy balled but what the fukk happened to Starks? First couple weeks of camp it sounded like he was runnin away with the startin spot now it sounds like he's on the choppin block. :dwillhuh:

The back that hasn't shown me nothin is Franklin. If he stays over Starks I'ma be heated.

Well, Young is officially the #2...we're releasing Harrell. I'm not a VY fan whatsoever, but he was clearly the lesser of the 2 evils, as Harrell has been terrible his entire time here.

God forbid Rodgers gets hurt :snoop:
