Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
Amendment 2 would raise Florida’s minimum wage. Here’s what you need to know.

Amendment 2 asks whether to raise Florida’s minimum wage. The question is straightforward, though the decision whether to support or oppose the measure involves considering potential unintended consequences.

Florida’s minimum wage is currently $8.56 per hour. Amendment 2 proposes to raise it to $10 per hour, effective Sept. 30, 2021, then an additional $1 per hour each year for five years, until September 30, 2026, when it would become $15 per hour. After that, minimum wage increases would be tied to annual inflation adjustments, as it is currentl

I'm torn on this. Would like some other opinions pro or con to get some different perspectives.

It’s a no brainer. Vote yes
No its not...

You're not taking into account the business finance aspect of this...You think all business owners will be able to keep their staff with the increase? They can barely keep their doors open right now...

Lot of folk going to go from $8.56 per hour to $0.00 and straight to the unemployment line because business owners can't afford to pay the increase...

Last I checked many businesses were already closing cause of no stimulus

Right...and you think jacking up the minimum wage is going to help remaining businesses stay open?

Its also worth asking, why are we pushing NY/CA/WA minimum wage polices in a lower cost to live state with no income rape tax during a pandemic that has ravaged business owners?

$8.56 in Florida is already the equivalent of $15 is states like NY/CA/WA...

Even if there were no pandemic and/or a big stimulus, there'd still be corporations firing people left and right if they had to pay a $15 minimum wage.

I'm voting yes. Businesses are being given a fair warning.

Republicans control every branch of the state government with no end in sight. The current minimum wage is way too low. I'm not waiting for a compromise.

Our state law doesn't even allow cities and counties to set their own minimum wage. Miami Beach tried to raise theirs to $13 an hour and the Supreme Court shot it down.

With that being said, I don't think it'll get the required 60%.

New York is 15 dollars right now depending on the region, this is saying to raise Florida to that by the end of 2025. That’s half a decade fam. If your business can’t handle paying workers less than 1.50 more per hour in 2021 then your business on the way out anyway.

If you can’t afford to pay people a living wage , either do the work yourself on you shouldn’t have a business.

Or, which is the problem with a localized minimum wage, just move to somewhere where you can pay 7.25. Either way, I'm all for it, the only way we hit a federal minimum wage at 15 is to start at the state/local level.

That's pretty much 60% of buisnesses in america cause of this pandemic. And what about the buisnesses in all the places that aren't major cities? Also a buisness can pay more than minimum wage if they want, I think most do here in Florida,

But I don't think it'll make much of a difference because in 2025 15$ will be worth more like 10$ now cause of our monetary system making all this shyt pointless in the first place.

Most wages are also livable if you live with someone else too tbh. If you in a position where you're making 8-9$ an hour then you probably should consider whether or not you can live by yourself on that. I would 100% stay with my family if I made that little.

I hear you but

I’m not saying you should be balling, but if a adult works 40 hours a week, then they should be able to afford housing for themselves and a self sufficient lifestyle in America.
