Iight mandem I decided I'm gonna have the punt with the MAACO paint job all black and see how that goes. It's gonna way easier for me to pay for and I don't wanna deal with the hassle of selling the car on craigslist and buying another 15,995 joint

Some dude in a truck gently tapped into my rear bumper today. It's very light damage, just some paint chips/dings/etc. He doesn't wanna go through insurance and rather pay out of pocket for the bodywork.

I take it to a well known body shop that was professional looking. Nice waiting room, offered coffee, bottled water, kolaches, donuts, etc. Their quote was like $550. Dude hears about this and says it's unacceptable and goes to his GPS and searches for "body shops." The closest one was literally across the street, it's a Maaco :rudy:

Maybe I should have said "Lets go further down the road, to the next body shop." :sadbron:

Maaco is going to repair it for $100 less. Cheap shyt :beli:
Their paperwork is shyt compared to the professional looking place.
So the guy who hit me wanted Maaco to fix it of course.

It'll be painted with the factory paint with clear coat, etc. It's supposed to be just like my factory paint. The Maaco repair is a lifetime warranty so I guess if it peels, chips, etc. I can just go get it done again, for free.

heard that they strip after a couple years

:sadbron:

Bet. Life time warranty doe. I'll just go there and say "Hey, this paint job is looking odd..." Bet they come up with some shyt doe saying it's my fault due to the 105 degree temp :beli:

Go to Maaco brehs, save that money :aicmon:

No. Maaco will not use factory paint. They'll paint match though.

Damn. Will anybody other than the dealer have the same factory paint then?
Seems like everybody will just paint match.

Thanks for the info!

My friend just told me to take the guys money and for me to pay the $100 difference and go to the better shop. Then again, that's $100 of my own money for a accident that he caused :ld:

Let me know regarding my factory paint question, thanks.

I have no idea which manufacture uses which paint.

There are body shops, not Maaco, that will use expensive paint like Siekens. But you can lay down cheap paint and have it turn out good too if you prep the surface properly.

:what: If he caused the accident I'd take it to whoever the hell I wanted to fix it and if he doesn't like it he can fukk himself and go his insurance.

My friend mentioned that Maaco does a bad job at the prep work. Darnit..

Able to give me advice? I just bought the 2010 certified car this past year and it currently has 29k miles on it. I plan to drive the car until it reaches 110k miles so it'll be with me for a long time.

Do you think calling the other shop and asking with paint they use is OK? Should I call 5 different shops and ask if they use Siekens? Any nation-wide shops that you'd recommend me to go to?

shyt sucks :sadbron:

Thanks unit321 :salute:

Siekkens is a good paint brand, but not the only brand that is good. PPG and Dupont also make good paint.
Get multiple quotes from different body shops.

Gotcha.

I only got two quotes so far.

Everyshop I go to will "match" the factory paint though, right? Not like they'll paint the bumper a different shade of black. I don't want it to look 2-toned bootleg shyt.

:whoa:

Can't be getting top of the line now.
Thanks though, I'll see what I can find out in my local ships.

I don't know what to do.. I was complaining about my money fund 3 days ago, now I want to pay more for 2 sq. feet of paint :ld:

If Maaco's paint matches my car (might not be a 1,000% match, but to the viewable eye it matches) and every time the cheap paint and sloppy work messes up I can get it redone then what's the harm? I'm sure the warranty has rules that won't make it so easy. Like the paint has to really mess up in order to get it repaired. Not just a little error. If they have a life time warranty, and people say it strips after a few years then what's the point?

:notsure:

How bad is it?
Any company can paint match. Most car companies have a color code and they can look up which paint will match. If they don't have it in stock, they'll order it. So getting a Honda black might be the same as a VW black, you wouldn't notice the difference. But a Honda silver might be different than a VW silver, and anyone would notice. I see that on some cars. It's ghetto. :snoop:

Well, it depends if you don't care if the paint job gets messed up. Get a quote from Maaco. They do car repairs in addition to whole car paint jobs. Compare it too the other quotes.

Yeah, that makes sense.

I drive a Honda, here's a picture. My mom, boss, and two repair companies look at it so far. All 4 people (including the person who hit me) say it's nothing. No dents and no major paint issues. It'll buff right out and then get painted over. Or something.

One place said they have to take extra paint off around the area to make it work. I'm not a car/paint guy so this stuff goings over my head.

Thoughts on the damage? Would you pay the extra amount for that small of an area to be painted over real good? Thanks
