Hercules live-action remake cast, release date and more
Hercules has joined the long line of Disney live-action remakes in the works and this one's got some Marvel seasoning.
Disney has hired Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings writer Dave Callaham – who's also worked on Wonder Woman 1984 and Into the Spider-Verse 2 – to work on the remake of the 1997 animation.
The new version will be produced by Joe and Anthony Russo through their AGBO company, but the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame pair will not be directing the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It's not yet clear if the live-action remake will be a faithful adaptation of the animations featuring the songs, like The Lion King and Aladdin remakes, or if they'll go bold and focus on the original mythology, like Mulan, perhaps without the songs.
Even the Russos don't know whether it'll be a musical yet, but they told Collider that "music will certainly be a part of it".
"We're going to give you a different story. I think we'll do something that's in the vein of the original and inspired by it, but we also bring some new elements to the table," Anthony Russo added.
