China would never hold an American in prison over shoplifting due to the diplomatic repercussions. They know this. On top of that, China is slowly trying to build their own basketball league and they welcome Lotta athletes. I even heard on the radio that some teams were already looking to get them release so they could return to play in their league in the future. Tump tried to pull a snake oil salesman trick that Lavar is using against him for free publicity. Lavar trolls for a living. Trump will lose this battle. He just picked the wrong opponent that can get him into true legal troubles.

Also, Trump would be impeached if he ever gave an order to imprison an American overseas.
