The way it usually works is a group of people that know each other get together to collect money (either weekly, monthly, yearly) to help each other financially. Participants can come up with any rules as long as they benefit the group. Usually there is an amount of money and number of people in the group that they all agree to in order to have cash right away. When they come to an agreement of who will be in the tanda and how much it will be (either weekly, monthly, yearly), they have to come up with the order of whom is going to receive the money. Participants can either raffle the numbers or make the decision in who needs the money most. It all depends on the group's decisions.[2]

As an example, a tanda is formed between ten friends and family. Each member givesUS$100 every two weeks to the group's organizer. At the end of the month, one participant gets the "pot", $2000. This continues until each member has received the pot.[3]

Tandas are formed for many reasons, but often because at least one member is in need of money to pay a debt right away, or an emergency arises. But they can also be formed with no pressing financial obligations.

Among Mexicans, these forms of informal savings associations play an important role sustaining the livelihood of many people living in both Mexico and the United States.

That kinda sharing requires we get comfortable with larger families, and everybody pitches in.

Somali people have a similar thing called ayuuto. I dunno how I personally feel about it but it seems to work. Almost every somali person I know over 30 is in one (or multiple).
Basically you decide on the number of people (usually 5-15) and amount of money each person puts in. For example if you have 12 people in the pot each putting in $1000 a month, then everyone gets 12K clean once a year. Shyt requires some trust and (theoretically) a form of enforcement, thats why it's usually b/t people who are family or related in some way like tribes.

i read up on su-su's and its actually an old custom from ghana. kinda dope that this old monetary system is still practiced today in many different forms. My mom and her coworkers used to do it back in the day.

people really need to think about group economics and who we're giving our money to. Put the petty BS aside and unite. support each other and our communities. Blacks could very easily sacrifice and start local boycotts - starting with the bodegas. everyone should buy bulk outside of that neighborhood until they have to shut their doors. then pool money together and buy the bodega. Which ties into food co-ops. there are many ways to serve our own communities, even if we're not producing it at the time. the arabs aren't making any of that shyt they're selling. but we won't if we're buying dumb shyt, from people who hate us no less, and refuse to work together.

Our collective minds are truly brainwashed. before we can develop an economic strategy, we have to change our mentalities.

dr frances welsing suggests:

1. Stop name-calling one another.
2. Stop cursing at one another.
3. Stop squabbling with one another.
4. Stop gossiping about one another.
5. Stop snitching on one another.
6. Stop being discourteous and disrespectful towards one another.
7. Stop robbing one another.
8. Stop stealing from one another.
9. Stop fighting one another.
10. Stop killing one another.
11. Stop using and selling drugs to one another.
12. Stop throwing trash and dirt on the streets and in places where Black people live, work and learn.

(lol its funny/crazy cuz this list is literally the exact opposite of what most mainstream rappers preach. except for #5...allegedly)
