The rescissions package is only $9 billion but it’s got huge ramifications. The fiscal year is ending and it’s clear if the Senate doesn’t pass it, Vought will do illegal pocket rescissions of appropriated funding in August so it all expires in September.

The foreign aid lawsuit is trying to get the Judge to enforce the preliminary injunction to compel the administration to obligate existing foreign assistance funds available. Vought doesn’t want to send it to the same NGOs and contractors.

EJ Antoni, nominated by President Donald Trump Monday to become the next commissioner for the Bureau of Labor Statistics, suggested that the agency should suspend its monthly jobs report, claiming it is unreliable and frequently overstated.

Antoni, in an interview with Fox Business News that took place before his nomination and was published Tuesday, said the BLS should instead publish quarterly data after it had been revised until BLS can ensure its monthly jobs data is more accurate.

“Until it is corrected, the BLS should suspend issuing the monthly job reports but keep publishing the more accurate, though less timely, quarterly data,” he told Fox Business. “Major decision-makers from Wall Street to D.C. rely on these numbers, and a lack of confidence in the data has far-reaching consequences.”

or..... suspend the job report altogether:mjgrin:

I’m posting with urgent and very bad news: at least 22 State Department international exchange programs, totaling ~$100M in Congressionally approved FY25 funding, are being shut down.

It’s up to us to stop this.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has targeted a list of Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) programs whose FY25 funding it intends to cut.

The Alliance has reviewed multiple internal DOS communications from yesterday confirming that at least 22 programs (listed at the end of this post) will be cut, totaling ~$100 million. I say “at least” because the list may not be exhaustive, but we are confident in reporting these 22. Of these, 13 are implemented by Alliance members, representing more than $85 million in funding.

The internal comms say that these ECA programs are “lower funding priorities in the current fiscal environment” so they are “being removed from FY25 funding.” Without these funds, these programs will be forced to shut down and the organizations that run them will suffer.

ECA is also facing an existential crisis, as this threatens all current and future exchange programs. If OMB is allowed to cut these Congressionally appropriated FY25 funds, it will give them license to do it again and again.

Eliminating the funding for these programs will greatly damage 75+ years of exchange activity and the legacy of Senator Fulbright. It would destroy many of our programs and much of our work.

This is an existential moment and here’s what you can do:

Call and email your Members of Congress through our advocacy campaign: LinkedIn.

We need them to tell OMB Director Russ Vought to release ECA’s Congressionally authorized and appropriated FY25 funds that are facing elimination.

Thank you for taking action today. I believe in you, I believe in us, I believe in exchanges.

Let’s go.
