Even the first season wasnt that great. I remember it caught some hate because essentially it swagger jacked its concept from other comic book stories and arc (Most notably Top Cow's Rising Stars, even Watchmen). So its best season was sharking and just threw a bunch of comic book arcs and saw what stuck.

It was initially suppose to be something like that. The original cast was meant for 1 season.
