I applaud him for doing what he does, but he is a normal man like me and you, no need to see him as some leader or something. Why can't we work together and uplift each other? We're a community, not an island. Everyone needs help, and whether you be a feminist, Garveyite, Muslim, Atheist, Republican, we can all work together to help the community. Tariq is doing a lot more for this community than nearly anyone else I can think of, especially at or above his level of popularity. Unlike people who just talk a lot of shyt about what black people "need" to do, he's actually at least try to do something (through his films, shows, and whatnot). He's never been punked or c00ned or anything like that. I support him. of course at the same time I'm not one of those people that needs to look at another man as a role model, so if I want to see something improved that I can actually improve i'll improve it myself (that's to say I'm not looking for a savior like a lotta other people).
