Idiot, just read my comment again, He made the comments about the movie "Gone With The Wind" prequel....but I was just curious about his opinion on Ali vs Frazier cause what Ali did to Frazier was totally dead wrong.

Not sure why u didnt PM this but good topic :ehh:

The treatment Ali gave both Frazier and some other people he met during that time was fukked up. However, he acknowledged that in his biography he acknowledged he fukked up and said how he treated him was not acceptable but he camouflages it as 'trash talk'. According to Ali it was trash talk and he didn't mean it but he went to far.

He played it up as completely competitive banter and whether a person accepts that is down up individual opinion. I've never done boxing, only played soccer and that kinda banter is verging on bullying. The image he created pretty much ruined Fraziers retirement career in regard to endorsements too because Ali dragged him through the mud and people weren't as quick to give him those deals.

How he shut Malcolm X off and didn't make up with him before his death is another wrong he has pointed out.

Ali is just one man and of course he made some mistakes (big and small). Most Ali fans accept this tbh :ehh:

Like I said, I think you need to watch the documentary that shyt would have you :whoo:. Ali went on record to say all these things and called Frazier an "uncle Tom" number of times, this is not some rumors Ali went way too far with his bad mouthing about Frazier, watch the documentary. White folks loves it and was like :russ: and Frazier was hurt..

True story, I remember the interview. They asked him was the hatred for real. Joe said, "Put it like this, I'd never want to go drinking & partying with Ali but if I need a guy to fight alongside me I could rely on he'd be my choice" It hurt Joe bad that his daughter was teased at school by kids saying her Daddy was a gorilla. But theres another side to Ali. When he fought in Germany Teddy Waltham a Brit was the referee After the fight Teddy was paid 1,000 pounds in cash for his fee. His pocket got picked & he lost it all. Someone told Ali. He immediately asked how much 1000 pounds was in dollars. Got the cash & gave it to Teddy saying " You worked too hard to go home with empty pockets' Read the book Muhammad Ali his life & times by Thomas Hauser You'll see the real Ali there warts & all its a great read.

What are your views on how Ali was during that phase ?
He's from my city, so i will always respect what he did for it and boxing, but I hated how he treated Joe. I know it wasn't personal and it was just to promote the fights but to do what he did to another proud black man was disgusting IMO :yeshrug:

This sounds perfectly accurate. I've read his book but I'll pick up this one too. He did have various sides to him like any man and I think that's why he has so many people that look up to him. Because at each stage of his life you can see the various phases and it's interesting.

As @61 Corpses said even the greatest Ali stan and person who looks up to him can't fail admit how he treated Joe was fukked up. The Gorilla shyt was pandering to white insults especially seen as he was very pro black that time. He went too far with that shyt but to his credit At least he went back on it when he was older but it has a lasting effect on Joe till he died.

Ali got too into that Nation of Islam shyt. It was almost like those dudes were giving him scripts. It seemed very rehearsed and inauthentic.

Regardless he is still the GOAT :ehh:

I don't think you can blame Frazier for being bitter. In the dynamic of hyping a fight, and from a detatched view point, it's great to watch. However, from the dynamic of their friendship, where Frazier sees it, Ali crossed the line and caused a lot of emotional damage to a friend who had put himself out for Ali on numerous occasions.

You can argue that Joe should have been able to separate the person from the persona and seen through what Ali was doing but that's easier said than done when you and your family are suffering in your daily life from the effects of what your suppossed close friend has been saying about you in the name of entertainment.

Either way, I'm pretty certain Ali realizes the damage he done to a guy who didn't deserve it and perhaps didn't have the intellectual tools to rationalise the situation.
